I had simple little Aiwa ported sub that finally died after 12 years of use. Got it for 80 bucks. I buy this MK75 used for $125, and it absolutely sounds terrible. It just rumbles annoyingly. Its either full boom, or no sound at all. Not worth $125, not worth $2. $650, you've all got to be kidding.

I purchased this subwoofer 12 years ago and have been happy with it from day one. I have never had a problem with it. It’s tight, musical, fast, THX certified (unit pre dates the Ultra I or Ultra II categories although I doubt it would have any trouble qualifying for either) … a lot of features for the money. The only reason I gave it 4 stars in the overall rating is the rating page had the foot note “money no object” next to this field. Even with that being the case, this really is a 5 star product because if money were no object that, in theory, would apply to everything else in this setting at which point the room in which this speaker is used would not be appropriate for it. Speaking of … The room in which it is used is approximately 250 sq ft. at 8 ft of height or just over 2,000 cubic feet. The top side of this system consists of M&K S-125 L, C, R speakers across the front and a pair of the SS-150THX surrounds. The MX-150 has never failed to fill the room or keep up with the top side of the system. The only down side I can find to this product is M&K is no longer based in the US so should I have a service issue involving anything related to the drivers, I may have some trouble finding a place to get the repairs done. Service has been taken over in the US by “The Dolphin Group” which is apparently run by internet retailer Abt Electronics president Mike Abt. It seems like the primary recurring negative posted here is the enclosures’ size. For those who have remarked about this as a negative, all I can offer is I can't imagine a speaker enclosure with a pair of 12" drivers, in a push pull configuration, that can deliver 20 Hz performance in a package any smaller than this.

Big...WAF is Low

I work as a salesman/installer for a Hi-Fi store. We carry M&K, Energy Loudspeakers, Polk Audio and others. I have listened to most of M&K's subs and bought the MX150 for my self. The MX150 is one of M&K's best. It is very tight for just 150w RMS. I use the spec RMS because M&K's amps have tons of headroom. It can dig low. 20Hz at least, if not lower.(Play the 20Hz sinewave test on the 5.1 audio toolkit disc.) I also have yet to hear it distort, break up or stress at all. My Marantz SR8200 is calibrated to THX reference level and I normally listen to movie sound tracks at -15db. Honestly, I'm afraid to push it to the point of distress. My windows rattled so bad when I tried with test signals they sounded like they were going to break. The MX150 is a great sub. If you want REAL subwoofer that can call down the THUNDER and are shopping in the $700+ range, I highly recommend you go listen it.

I have the 150 Mark 2 THX Ultra I cannot believe how good this subwoofer is. The subwoofer timing when on and off is very good. Music is very good, and films are simple great. This will blow you away.

PRELIMINARY

After two long weeks it finally arrived!! First and foremost I am an amateur drummer, when I can, and an amateur speaker builder (the set below is the fourth set I have designed an built, and the best yet). I auditioned Velodine HGS-15, Definitive Technology PF15TL, Klipsch LF-10, and Acoustic Research 300. I read the reviews on the M&K 125 MK II and was very, very impressed. I have a Pioneer VSX-27TX receiver that is THX Ultra approved. I designed my own speakers, MTM, 6 ½ midbass with 2 silk dome tweeters; a friend is building in St. Louis, 1600 miles away. While waiting for my real speakers to be built I purchased Cambridge Sound Works Home Theater III speakers. I also purchased the M&K 150THX subwoofer without even listening to it. A foolish move on the surface, after listening to the above mentioned subwoofers I was not impressed. I am into DVD so I spent an extra $100 for the M&K 150THX as apposed to the M&K 125 MK II. I cannot comment on the M&K 125 MK II but the M&K 150THK is PHENOMENAL!! Other reviews have claimed the M&K 150THX is the THX version of the M&K 125 MK II. If this is the case I am comfortable spending the extra $100 on the THX version. Regardless the M&K 150THX is the best sounding subwoofer I have ever heard. I started going through my collection with Sara Mclachlan, then Jewel, Stuart Hamm, Ravel, Beethoven, Williams, Newman, Bach (pipe organ), Barry and Bernstein. I was impressed, and very OK with the fact I spent $1000 on a subwoofer. Then I put in RUSH. I had Neil Peart in my living room!! I listened to all of my RUSH including the imports. (La Villa Strangiato) INCREDIBLE!! Again I was very happy. Then just for grins I turned down the treble (I am not sure I needed too but, I didn't want to blow up the Cambridge speakers) and put on Korn. WOW!! I was OK spending $1000 on this Subwoofer, but after Korn I would have been OK paying $2000. I turned the volume up to full blast to see if the sub could take it (+12db), it said "COME ON!!" "Is that all you have??"(My SPL meter read 105db). The sub was crisp and clean, it had a lot of accurate punch and I did not find it muddy at all, like so many others. I found this sub for $1069 delivered at www.audiolab.com. It's worth every penny. Be patient, it takes about 2 weeks (10 business days) to have it delivered but it's worth it. The M&K 125 MK II may be as good but for $100 why not have the THX Ultra approval?? Money well spent!! I may follow up when my mains are finished but, I cannot give the sub anymore than five of five stars so maybe not. M&K RULES!!

Tight, quick & accurate sound; excellent amp module and controls.

Woofers use stamped frame as opposed to cast frame.

The sound is, as mentioned above, tight and quick. For folks only using one sub, they may wish to get the extra power that the MX350 affords. Recovery to idle speed (at rest time) for the drivers is very, very, good. A certain springiness or tautness is thus detectable in the sound. Even so, some major excursion is there, when called for, such as on "No Future In The Past", on the New Alan Parsons CD Time Machine. Ditto for Asleep At The Wheels' Live version of "There Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens", a 1999 HDCD recording that is well miked and mixed. I am feeding the unit with a Monster THX subwoofer cable. (I am not here to argue the merits of various cables, but find this particular cable to deliver good sound without breaking the bank.) A well engineered and built product, and worth the investment. The M & K website, at mksound.com, is quite informative and usefull. A moderately heavy unit, but not too large. I opted for the black finish to save $$, but the elective veneers look luxurious! This sub is a value product from the line of professional products with a sterling industry reputation. In conclusion, a high quality subwoofer that, while not inexpensive, is very accurate, clean, quick and a "keeper" for sure. Highly recommended, five stars! This Miller & Kreisel baby pounds away like there's no tomorrow. BTW, the magnet assembly, while not the most attractive, is quite large, and gives an inkling of the subs capabilities. Worth every penny!

THIS UNIT IS AN UPGRADE FROM THE MX105 FROM MK. I WAS SURPRISED TO HEAR SUCH A GREAT DIFFERENCE FROM THE PREVIOUS MODEL I OWNED. THE 150THX IS A MUCH MORE DETAILED AND STRONGER SUB AND IT ALSO HAS A GREATER IMPACT THAN THE 105. THE 105 IS AN OUTSTANDING MODEL ALSO, YOU CAN READ MY REVIEW HERE ALSO. ANYWAY I WAS WONDERING WHERE THE BASS WAS AT FIRST WHEN I HOOKED UP THE 150THX BECAUSE IT GETS SO QUIET THEN IT JUMPS OUT AT YOU. THIS WAS CAUSED FROM THE THX SET UP I HAD DONE AND I JUST WAS NOT IMPRESSED WITH IT AS I AM WITH THE 80Hz 24dB/OCTAVE POSITION. THIS SETTING GAVE THE MOST IMPACT TO MY SYSTEM. ALSO PLACING A Y CONNECTOR TO BOTH INPUTS ON THE SUB GAVE EVEN MORE OF A POWERFUL EFFECT. THE MANUAL SAYS NOT TO DO THIS BUT IF BIG BASS IS YOUR THING THIS SET UP MAY INTEREST YOU. I DISCONNECTED THE Y CONNECTOR ON THE BACK OF THE SUB AND I JUST HAVE THE SINGLE CABLE IN THERE AND IT SOUNDS JUST FINE TO ME. CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS TRYING TO TELL ME THAT THE THX SET UP IS DESIGNED TO CONTROL THE BASS BUT IT MAKES THE BASS TO CONTROLLED FOR MY TASTE. SOME OF YOU MAY LIKE THIS EFFECT BUT I LIKE A LITTLE EARTH SHATTERING EFFECT SOMETIMES. BUT THE BEST THING ABOUT THE SUB IS YOU CAN REALLY MAKE SOME SERIOUS ADJUSTMENTS TO SUIT YOUR NEEDS, NOT WHAT THE MANUAL OR ANY OF THE CUSTOMER SERVICE PEOPLE TELL YOU TO DO. THERE ARE NO SPEAKER LEVEL INPUTS BUT BIG DEAL IN THESE DAYS OF DIGITAL BLISS. YOU WILL NOT REGRET THIS INVESTMENT AND YOU WILL BE VERY HAPPY TO COME HOME TO SOME SERIOUS POWER. Can reproduce an earthquake with perfection

Bass so intense it makes my Beer go flat!

Im not by anymeans an Audiophilest but I do listen well, one day I mentioned to my Brother I was going to go buy a good subwoofer and he asked me how much I was going to spend, I replied in shame $500.00 bucks just on a woofer. He then recomended to me the M&K MX150 that he owned at only twice the money $1000.00 bucks well I took his advice and purchased it without ever listening to it, it turned out to be the best audio purchase of my life.
The old rumbles turned out to be highly accurate earthquakes and drums even with my cheap Dolby Digital receiver. My bass sounds better to me than at the new Imax theaters. My goal is to eventualy replace all my equipment with the THX endorsement. Then again why? Im happy with the sound coupled with my Apogee Centaur Minors. I have heard my buddies similiar priced Definitive Techcnoligy sub he purchased to match his main speakers and I hear that strange rumble again when pushed but I kept my mouth zipped.

This is an excellent product! Very low and deep bass is produced with this thing, along with a "punch" that's hard to match. The low pass filter removes mid-bass from the subwoofer thereby preventing loud and muddy bass from overpowering the rest of they system while watching a DVD. For the price I paid, it was a steal.

I have been very happy with this subwoofer. Unfortuantely, my neighbors have had a few misgivings about the earth shattering impact produced by the low-frequency sound from this unit. Unlike several of THX certified subwoofers, the MX-150 THX is certified to THX performance standards when a single unit is used in rooms up to 3,000 cubic feet! This subwoofer has deep bass impact and its shielded driver is capable of producing sound below 20 Hz. If you don't have pre-amp level outputs (THX/surround controllers, preamps, crossovers), then this subwoofer is not for you as its does not include speaker level inputs. However, if you are in the market for a world class powered subwoofer, then you should definately check out this model. The cabinet dimensions are 23" high by 15 1/4" wide by 19 5/8" deep. It weighs 74 lbs!
