Bottom Line:
i boght this sub at good will for the total sum of $6.40 and have total of around 6 subs and if id paid a couple hundred bucks id say its a powerful sub and has tremendous lows.for the couple of reveiws i saw where they say its low in volume it has to be the driving power you are hitting it with and if you are using the rca inputs that will happen.if you have the sub out on your receiver set up so it will drive it then you will hear the power this sub has.it has a 70 watt rms output transistor stk4040-2 and that will produce 140peak output.and some say its too heavy, well to get good cabinets, transformers for power its gonna have some weight.if its to lite then its made out of cheap wood and you will get raddles, cracks in the cabinet etc.sit it and dont move again.think back in the 70s when pioneer and diffrent amp companys made the pretty aluminum receivers and amps, they was heavy and most if taken care of are still in working order today.i have a lot of old vintage gear and its heavy, but its still going and you wont find nothing like them in bestbuy, bet on it.older amps are the only way to go,carverm-500t,onkyo m-504,m506rs is all i run and recap them every 10-15yrs and keep going and the power is none like the pep junk of today.as far as this velodyne sub,its a heavy hitter driving the rca out of my carver c2 preamp and out to the m-500t.if you find a good one for less than 100 bucks you got a deal,i love mine for the less than 7 bucks from the local goodwill, thanks will

Bottom Line:
Beautiful sound. Strong hitting. Beautiful performance of sustained bass, no distortion at all (at least no audible by myself). Best of all, the amp has no humming!! Seams to be a very good amp, includes a heat sink in the back actually.
My system now has a whole new dimension with the addition of this sub, and for a so cheap price.

Bottom Line:
I bought this sub for my home theater system to replace a Yamaha upright sub (my first sub ever) and was very pleased with it. It did not seem to play very "loud," and I often had the volume cranked up to 7 out of 10. My receiver is a Denon AV5800 and I was using AR9 LSs for the mains, an Infinity IL36c for the center and bookshelf Infinitys for the surrounds. I use 4 surrounds as I use DTS EX when I am able. I recently upgraded my mains to the Mirage OM-5s and the center channel to the Mirage HDT center. Suddenly, the Velodyne seemed weak and muddier than before. I upgraded the sub to the MIrage. I thnk the Mirage is really in a different class than the Velodyne, but I decided to hook up the Velodyne to the center channel. My first experience was disappointing. However, I upgraded the speaker connects form the Denon to the Velodyne to some high quality speaker connects and did the same from the Velodyne to the Mirage HDT center. I adjusted the crossover on the Velodyne ot match the center low point (60Hz). The result has been truly enjoyable. The Mirage handles the LFE and the addition of the Velodyne ot the center gives a full range center channel which simply shines in home theater applications. The Velodyne has found a new job and performs admirably.

It is not fair to try and compare this Velodyne to the Mirage, as they are really in different leagues. However, for a smaller system, or in a specialty application (such as I discovered), it is an excellent buy.

Bottom Line:
I have owned this sub from May '98 and must say that for paying only $599, it is definately worth consideration in purchase. The clean, tight bass from the 12" passive radiator mixed with the booming nature of the forward firing 10" provides complete, deep bass with accuracy of subs that cost four times as much. Velodyne has truly put together a product for the mid range audiophile or the high end audio enthusiast.
