The industry's best selling small subwoofers just got better with the perfect combination of beauty, brains and brawn. We took the original SPL Series II's 1000-watt RMS amps, long throw drivers, and compact, beautiful cabinets and added a 6-band automatic digital room equalizer with included mic, a remote control and full DSP control. The result is a subwoofer that adapts to any room's décor and acoustic anomalies with performance that leaves anything else in its class in the dust. The SPL-R Series - Small, Precise...Loud. Simply Perfect.
Strengths: Nice clean bass from a small enclosure. The black glossy finish looks great.
Weaknesses: It does not produce the lowest bass notes, but it is perfectly fine for my 2-channel music system. The black glossy finish is both a strength and weakness. It is a weakness because of all the dirt and fingerprints that are easily seen on the finish.
Bottom Line:
I only have a 2-channel system with a pair of Paradigm Signature S2 monitor speakers. I wanted to get a subwoofer to enhance bottom end. The Velodyne SPL-800R subwoofer gives a very nicely defined bass in a very compact system. Because this is compact and only has an 8-inch driver it doesn't produce the lowest bass notes, but it is great for my purposes. This subwoofer nicely integrates into my system/room. I also like the compact size and my wife appreciates this very much as well. I also auditioned the larger SPL-1000R with a 10 inch driver, but felt it was too much for our room
