Velodyne Acoustics DLS-4000R / CHT-12R
6 Reviews
rating 4.67 of 5
MSRP
Description:
Velodyne now brings the power and precision of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) to a new series of very affordable, high-performance, remote-controlled subwoofers. The Distortion Limiting System (DLS-R) Series subwoofers consists of the DLS-3500R with an 8" forward firing driver (6.3" piston diameter), DLS-3750R with a 10" forward firing driver (8.2" piston diameter), DLS-4000R with a 12" forward firing driver (9.9" piston diameter), and DLS-5000R with a 15" forward firing driver (12.7" piston diameter). Each subwoofer features four presets on its remote control for movies, rock music, jazz/classical and games, allowing you to select the perfect bass without ever leaving your chair. All the adjustments of these subwoofers can be made using the remote including volume control, night mode, low-pass crossover and phase. The DLS-R Series deliver bass the way it was meant to be heard - loud and deep with incredible impact and lower distortion.

The specifications on the CHT-R are the same as the DLS-R Series, except the power requirements for the CHT-R Series are 230V and 50 Hz.

Summary:
I have enjoyed the DLS-4000R over the past coupler years, but for the past year it has been giving me a WHITE NOISE sound after about 15 minutes of playing time. I hardly even use it now just because of that reason, are there any ideas to repairing this night mare. My Home Theater system has never been the same.

Price Paid: $599.00 from OneCall.com

Summary:
I'm sure these aren't the last word in absolute performance, but in their price and size class, I feel they offer truly outstanding value. They look great, they sound great, and by using their high-pass filtered outputs, they make my Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs OML-2's sound even better than they already did! Plus, the remote is really handy for set-up purposes.

If you prize value, I think it'd be hard to go wrong with these puppys. I bought a pair!

Strengths:
looks
value
remote
flexible set-up
low distortion

Weaknesses:
vinyl wrap (it looks good, but still...it's vinyl)
ultimate performance (but then, it's "only" a $600 sub and smaller than a deep freeze!)

Price Paid: $0.00 from Tweeter

Summary:
CHT 12 Subwoofer was a "gift" from my son who insisted that he needed my small 8' for his computer. I reluctantly traded.....it made my kit MCM 12" which I thought was good, sound like the speaker on cheap TV. Outstanding in every way; except the cheap black look. Tight and clean, after running it through an analizer I realized I had to turn it down to keep the base in line with the rest of the system. That last for a cut or two.....crank it back up. Now a heavey base man for life.

Strengths:
Tight, well controled base. plenty of flexability, power.

Weaknesses:
Cabinet a little underwhelming, over powering if not careful, shakes the floor above.

Similar Products Used:
MCM kits home made passive subs.RS sub

Price Paid: $475.00 from inetdistributors

Summary:
Very Happy with this Sub, everything I expected and more. It took awhile to dial it in and I recommend using a Radio Shack Sound Pressure Meter and a audio set up CD like Avia; I found using a Y adaptor for the LEF inputs to really increase the sound quality at low to mid volumes (I am using an Onkyo Receiver). I have this bad boy in a mid size room 20x24 and it really rocks, movies and music. I know there are other subs out there but I don’t see how you could ask for any more than this sub provides. The Remote is very helpful during set up.

Strengths:
Sounds Great & Lots of power!!!! You will feel the sound. Also Look great

Weaknesses:
None that I hsave have found
