This sub distorts very easily and doesn't play the deeper frequencies as well as the 108

Fantastic fast, tight sounding sub. Features include volume and 80 hz to 160 hz frequency controls, RCA low level input and spring clip speaker level input/output, auto-on/off toggle power switch, and 0 or 180 degree phase capability. I use it for music only and never pump up the volume, with the frequency knob at 100 hz and volume set so you can just start to hear the sub when my amp is at background listening level. When I turn my Yamaha AX-497 amp up to where the volume dial is pointing to 9 o'clock, my Yamaha NS-6490 speakers push out a realistic bass so the Polk isn't needed and I turn it off. I'm not a bass head ( IMO the bass line should not dominate the sound stage) but if you are I'm sure the Polk PSW 10 will not disappoint....until !!!

I walked across the carpet to turn the unit off, touched the metal on/off toggle switch, discharged a static spark, instantly smelled something electrical burning, and it stopped working without being turned off. I removed the back plate and replaced the fuse but the new fuse lasted for less than a hot second.That on/off toggle should have been protected from static electricity. Of course the unit was out of warranty. Now I know this sub was only $100 but I would expect more than 3 years from something that was never abused and wired in the preferred method the manual stated. I would have given one star but it was really great while it lasted.

For $99 (Amazon.com) you cannot go wrong with this powered sub. Perfect for average sized rooms and works nicely with small satellite speakers. I got the one with the cherry finish. A very affordable option for deep bass.
