A giant killer for music, very seamless and tuneful. No one-note bass - this thing is more like a woofer than a true SUB woofer, but will extend the range of your mains very well if music is your priority.

I had a special cable made (by Signal Cable - thanks Frank!) to connect the speaker level outs of my amp to the RCA line level ins of the sub. Best to run the mains full-range for a more seamless integration.

At the price on the used market, what a steal!

This is not a shake the house, rattle your windows home theater sub. Best as a low frequency music AUGMENTER. 4 stars overall because one can't have it all with this sub in that it's only flat to 30Hz. However, most music doesn't drop below that point and I listen to a lot of R&B and Electronica.

My main speakers are MTM floorstanders that in my room, go down flat to 60Hz with ports plugged (I prefer the sound that way) and a good 3 feet from the back wall. The specs of the floorstanders (Krix Lyrix Golds) are -3dB at 35Hz.

I needed something that would blend well and not boom. After looking high and low for a sub for many months to fill in the lower frequencies of my 2 channel music system, I finally stumbled on this gem.

The UFW 10 is an acoustic suspension design with a 500W amp with a single band parametric EQ and 10 inch woofer. I found the ideal placement in the front corner - contrary to the popular belief that corner placement produces one-note out of control bass. This sub is the opposite of boomy. As a matter of face, REL stipulates that their subs should also be placed in the corner to properly load the room, I can now see why. The bass is tight and tuneful with just the right amount of heft.

After some time blending the sub with a Radio Shack SPL meter and using the test tones on Rives Audio Test CD 2, I optimized the parametric EQ to tame a 50 Hz peak. I set the sub's crossover to around 50Hz. The mains are running full range and the sub is simply augmenting the mains and extending the musical spectrum flat to 30Hz.

I can't tell where this sub starts and the mains leave off. To be able to hear the 30Hz to 60Hz range is such a pleasure that it makes me listen to all my CDs over again. Songs have much more air and ambiance as well. The price is reasonable and I could even afford to add another in the future for use in stereo.

Well,Ive had my ufw10 for a few weeks,and so far so good!Very musical,and thats what I bought it for...music!My previous sub was just entry level,and was more for movie watching,slow and muddy on the tunes,the rocket is tight and has plenty of punch,I listen to all types of music and was happy with my polk rti8's on everything but rocknroll,even with my old sub they just didnt have the punch I wanted,the rocket solved that problem,and it blends in nicely with my speakers,does sound like its coming out of the corner,not over powering.

(My price paid reflected package pricing) Overall, this is a fantastic performing subwoofer in a small, beautiful package. Featuring a 500W amplifier and a 1 band parametric EQ, the UFW10 is an impressive performer. I have since replaced the UFW10 with a much larger 15" based subwoofer, but for a 10" sub, I was very happy with it's musical performance. It is remarkably 'tight' sounding. The only limitation I found on the UFW10 was it's performance at < 28Hz region. In my set-up, SPL tailed off dramatically. This is the singular reason I give it 1 star short in overall rating. Regardless, at it's typical selling price, I consider the UFW10 an amazing bargain.
