I was recently given this cabinet for use on one of my smaller shows.
At first I was very skeptical. Its a 15inch sub with a mackie label. So i didn't think i would get much out of it.
When I plugged it in, it blew me away.
The sound quality and frequency was perfect with my 12inch line array top boxes.
I tried very hard to push the speaker to its max and to see how much I could get out of it. But it beat me.
I was reaching over 105dB of constant sound (110dB peak) and was still getting no distortion. Just very high quality sound.
I have worked on some of the biggest concerts in Australia with some of the best audio systems such as KV2, Meyer, Martin London, Nexo and JBL. I never thought I could get similar sound quality out of a small system like this compered to those brands. But I was wrong.
I am now looking at buying several more of these boxes. Even though they are a discontinued product.

They are very good quality, small, a good weight and have a amazing price tag.
Well done to Mackie!

Strength:

Gobs of low end, that I think only a 15 or larger can provide.
Feel the air move.
Pro quality.
Rcf driver with 3" excursion.
600 watts

Weakness:

Not a pretty burl wood cabinet.
105 lbs.
Not auto on/off

Love this sub.
I bought it for live performances and was using it for Roland V drums.
It now sits in my living room and thumps along nicely.
The power is way more than I need, but since I owned it already and was looking at puny subs with 8-10 inch speakers for the same money, I already knew what I would be doing.
My wife wasn't happy with the industrial look, but has allowed it due to the sound it emits.
It is running at -8 on my system, so it is barely working up a sweat.

I may have to use it for shows someday so I will be on the lookout for a worthy replacement, but for the same money, who?

Strength:

Smooth, clear and powerfull lo bass grunt.

Weakness:

Needs careful planning when moving around solo. It's 105lbs, a small adult female in weight!

Bought a three wheel hand trolley, only way to move SRS1500 up and down stairs. No regrets though, unit is excellent in sound delivery and product quality. Real bass at for 3-400 people from a small block shape on the floor, remarkable.

Similar Products Used:

JBL 250w EON. No x-over results in 'smearing' of lo frequency sound. But at less than 40lbs, easy to move.
