Strength:

This sub is just incredible. Before I go any further I'd like to give my disclaimer. I'm not a professional reviewer, nor do I work for Audiophile Magazine. I've had an
acute love of audio for the past 30 yrs or so.I also have
a backround in electronics as well as amateur radio so I'm
not completely out in left field in terms of hardware. As with all this stuff, your ears have to be happy, bottom line.
That having been said, once my mind had been made up to
make a sub purchase I frequented the audio shops. I listened
to different subs, powered and passive. I'm not going to knock other brands specifically but I will say that every
time I went into a store, the first thing I did was head for the sub to make sure it was turned up all the way. It just seemed that to hear anything pronounced you always had to
crank the gain all the way up,period. Of course at full gain
you had no more control. You just had to live with it.
After looking around and not satisifed,My friend offered
to sell me his 6 yr or so M&K sub. It sounded beautiful
but was too big.(It was one in which is set up that a 27"
or so tv monitor sits on it,I think 1000 is the model)This
older sub did not have a lack of gain to be sure but I wanted something newer and so I dove
deeper into what M&K had to offer. I went to the top of the
line 5000.
To the point, this sub does it all. It has so much gain
that you will never run it at full gain unless you have
program materal that is completely low freq lacking. Music
or movies,it doesn't matter,it still has tons of output. As
with any sub it is heavy and awkward to move especially with
the supplied/removable spikes. The weight is a bit over 100lbs. If the cost is a factor, reconsider. The enjoyment
you'll get, spread out over the years you'll have this sub
will be well worth it. It's just a treat listening to
cd's and movies and hearing the low frequency content that
was completely missing or just barely being reproduced by
other subs.
In conclusion, this sub PERFORMS no question. It has tons of
output and will reproduce the lowest bass you can imagine.
Feel free to e-mail me.

Strength:

this is a very good subwoofer.

Weakness:

price (which you forget once you live with it)...at any price I don't think you will do better

This is a great sub.... without compromise. You will not be unhappy IF you can afford it effortlessly (otherwise forget it because it is a lot of money and SVS or many other makers will make you happy at less than half the price.... but... if you can afford it... then it is great.... both with music and hit you in the stomach explosions). I love mine.

NO REGRETS at all.... really top notch.

Strength:

Deep bass, fast, versital configuration.

Weakness:

None I can think of.

I use this sub for the LFE channel in my home theater setup. It takes everything I throw at it. If you have ever seen the movie the Haunting, it has agressive bass down to 18Hz. This sub played it all, very loudly and with detail. It is not a mushy sub - it has enormus presence and detail.

It is also very flexible in that you can use the crossover on your av-controller or use its own crossovers. You get two types of crossovers one that is fixed, the other you can dial in. You can also use the av-controller to control the volume or manually control it from the sub.

I really like this sub and it gives me a lot of enjoyment when watching movies.

Strength:

Will take everything and anything you throw at it without distortion.

Weakness:

Moving it!

I purchased 3 subs in 3 weeks and took them all back. None could withstand my demands. I ran across the 5000 used and it was 200$ more than any of the new ones I tried. The sales guy said it was over 1/2 the cost on new.
I couldn't be happier. I have had it for over 5 years now. Never an ounce of problem. It was and still is the best money I have spent in my theater system. Expensive but knowing what I do now about it I would have paid full price for it and still be as happy

This is the industry standard for the Motion Picture/Professional Multi-Channel Audio Industry

I am both a professional and personal user of M&K products, not a retailer. For anyone that does not already know this, M&K is the leading professional audio speaker manufacturer. Everyone from Dolby&DTS, to Trevor Rabin(YES), George Lucas, THX, a host of digital editors & DVD authoring companies, and now even the mastering man himself on the east coast Bob Ludwig use MK. If you check out your liner notes on pretty much a who's who of music, you will find Gateway Mastering and Bob Ludwig(on a side note, his personal best master is Tori Amos, Boys for Pele. Buy it now if you do not own it. He has installed two of these subs in his newer DVD mastering suite.

If you want deep truly tactile bass, then this is definitely a sub you need to look into. It is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but the odds are very good that any movie you may be watching had its LFE signal mixed on this sub. Certainly not a sub for apartment dwellers, unless you plan on being evicted quite quickly, as your neighbors will feel about as much bass as you will. It does have a lower wife acceptance factor than say a sunfire sub, but still its worth it. There are subs that may be a touch more musical, and certainly subs that get a little deeper(REL), but this is the standard for the motion picture industry, need I say more?? Every single second of audio for Star Wars The Phantom Menace was mixed using this product, as well as the new Star Wars film currently in Production.
