Strength:

This is not a bad sub for the size. Overall it does just fine.

Weakness:

It does start to distort with some movies with a lot of bass. I turned it down and it does just fine. Just not that deep feeling bass as a 10" or 12" would produce.

Casual Listener

I got this sub-woofer a long time ago, and right after my friend dropped the receiver, I have yet to buy a new one. So I re-purposed the woofer. I am driving my first car now, a ford ranger, and WOW! For any that don't know, its a very small cab, even though its the extended one. When you put it to maximum it sounds like CRAP, what cheap sub doesn't? But I have tuned it just with the two knobs on the back to shake my whole truck easily, sound amazing and have no delay! This is without a pre-amp out active, I connected the built in amp directly to the wires that go to my rear doors. Stock head unit.

What do I listen to?
Techno/Dance/Trance/Rave music. Fast thumps
Rating: AMAZING!
Details:
With this type of music this bad boy hit every beat strong! After tuning it with my stock ford head unit, no extensive modifications by any means, it doesn't have a second to lag at all!

Have I tried it on other music?
Yes, I have taken a CD of various types of music, from hip hop, pop, rap, rock and metal and put this beast into go mode. With the long droning bass of a rap song I had no problems cranking the volume and crossover, I kept it tuned well for all most of the others, so it can hit hard and drone when it needs to.

How the hell do I get good sound???
Infinity made this sub right for the price. Yes it will die out after a few years of use, yes it wont last forever, and no you cant crank it to 11 and let it go crazy. Keep it tuned in well, I have yet to need to turn the volume on either my head unit or on my sub even half way up to shake my plastic door panels.

Not bad infinity, not bad at all!

I PURCHASED MY BU-80 INFINITY POWERED SUB. AS AN OPEN BOX PRODUCT AT CIRCUIT CITY. IT ONLY LASTED 2 YEARS 3 MONTHS. SOMETHING INSIDE BLEW UP AND STARTED SMOKING, IF I KNEW THAT THESE SUBS HAD PROBLEMS I WOULD HAVE PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY.

Strength:

good bass for a small room

Weakness:

No low frequency extention,( It's only 8"), no phase switch,
Sacrifices volume for accuracy and somewhat slow.

First my system;
Yamaha RX V2095
Boston CR6 speakers with Infinity LMPS
Sony DVP S330
MIT interconnects and wires
Sony MD player
and Techniques SL 1200 MK2 TT
I bought this sub on a recomendation from Circuit City on the basis that my room is very small, 8'deep 13'long and 8' tall and I wouldn't need a bigger sub. It really does fairly well for it's size although to me it is very slow. Bass isn't very tight. I thought that since my room is little I wouldn't need a bigger sub, maybe a better sub. I listen to a lot of different styles of music, classic rock, classical jazz and a lot of movies. For the money I don't think I did to bad. Bass drops of completely after @41hz
(using the Avia DVD setup DVD). I'm thinking of a bigger sub
perhaps a Boston or larger Infinity. If you have a small room this might be worth listening to.

Strength:

Well built construction and plenty of power. For an 8" sub, the bass will fill a small room efectivly but is not reccomended for a system that is paired with something like Infinitys rs-10. But dont put down or expect more from such a small speaker.

Weakness:

considering all....... not much.

I have this sub in a smaller room for music and movies. The sub is a, hard hitting-enjoyable for most low volume sound-if set up right-pleasing experience for most kids. I really prefer a larger speaker size so I got a 15" sub for my personal sound room. If your thinking of getting one listen to one at your local speaker retailer and compare to a AR 15"incher and in a 25X30 room you wont be able to tell a whole lot of difference until you step away. Its good bass for a casual listener. Or the BU_120 is nice also. But don't expect a load of gut busting bass to pound yourself to a pulp....... if you want realistic sound and thump get it, by all means. Thank you

Strength:

definetely has tight bass, great for a small room or if you want to keep it concealed behind u're audio equip.

Weakness:

have to crank it beyond 12 o'clock position in order to hear it.

so far I feel it's great. i have a new technics receiver which wasnt giving enough bass to my two fronts so i had to make due and get a separate sub. now it sounds great! i dont listen rap or hiphop so i dont need excessive bass. it's great for back orchestra in movies and ok for classic rock and hard rock. i would have bought a larger sub , but i wanted to keep it hidden.

Strength:

Price, construction, looks

Weakness:

None at this price

This unit does an excellent job considering the 8" speaker and 75 watts. I like balanced, unobtrusive bass and this does the job very nicely. It is placed against a wall but not in the corner. The volume is set at around the 11:00 position and the crossover at 12:00, which provides a solid, tight bottom end that was previously lacking. The bass does become somewhat boomy and rumbling replaces distinct notes at the very bottom, but at $103 I am not complaining. The unit appears to be made very well, it is compact (flexible placement) and does not overheat. My wife and kids notice the improvement, too. I think this is a good product and the price makes it an excellent deal!

Strength:

better than Cambridge bass cubes, otherise none.

Weakness:

like any other pathetic 8" piece of crap midbass, I mean "subwoofwer," not that it deserves the name!

If in a small room buy a quality 12" car sub like JL audio 12w6 for a small sealed enclosure. It will use the acoustical gain to produce accurate bass and a good flat response. Unmatched by any 8". If you have a reciever capable of 120+w at 4ohms (unless you only by crap that blows under 6 ohms)you will push far more bass than ANY 8" sub(under 8mm x-max). This Infinity will POP at high excursions because its a weak peice of crap. DONT USE ANY SUB UNDER 12 INCHES! In a large room try 18" subs like Aurasound and Mccaully coupled with 1000+w rms pro amps. Now thats real bass! I give ALL subs under 12" a 1 because of wimpyness and lack out output. Only casual listeners upgrading their Aiwa shelf system should use this sub or any like it.
