Summary:
I have to agree with what's been said already -- this sub is a tremendous value! I have two, and they are the best subs I've owned. They may not be the prettiest (I like'm though) but the money has been put into performance, not cosmetics.

The small size is a big plus when it comes time to fine-tune the placement. A few inches one way or another can make a big difference in sound, and a small sub can just go places a big one can't (duh).

The sound is very smooth and clean. Since there's no port, there's no port noise, and that means no port noise complaint! (sorry, i couldn't resist)

All in all a great value. Extension to below 30 Hz and output of around 110dB in-room. Good enough for me!

Summary:
Let me start with the punchline, this sub is a steal for the price. I was looking for a musical sub to augment my 2-way DIY speakers, which have 7" woofers. My speakers go down to about 50-60 Hz, so I really was only trying to fill in that last octave or so. Before purchasing this kit, which took about 2 hours for me to put together, I considered similarly configured subs from Hsu, and what I could find on audiogon. Well, I think I made the right choice. The Dayton is compact, and unobtrusive, which was a plus. Even though it is small, it is a very solid piece of equipment. The 10" Titanic driver weighs about 20 pounds. I can't even imagine the size of the 12", let alone 15". For my small room, the 10" was plenty. Furthermore, I believe that smaller woofers can sound more musical, especially if they're not asked to perform above 80 Hz or so. The amplifier plate has continously variable phase control, which allows very precise tuning. I can hear a huge difference going from 0 to 180, and in my system, for my room, 180 is the optimum. Also, the variable high frequency cutoff goes down to 40 Hz, which is lower than many subs. I leave at around 40-50 Hz. I may have left the impression that the sub is good for music but not home theater. I don't think that is the case. I think, if the room is not too big, this sub can do it all. It can defintely slam when you need it to. Highly recommended. One of the best purchases I've made in a long time.

Strengths:
Musically accurate, yet punchy bass, easy to integrate with main speakers.

Weaknesses:
None for application in a small- to medium-sized setting. Larger installation may want to go with 12" or maybe 2 10" Titanics, which would give the same quality bass, but more quantity, if that's even desired.

Summary:
Without a doubt, this is the best value I have seen, heard, or bought in audio in my 15+ years in the hobby. I sold a Velodyne F1500R when I moved into a condo but got the itch for more bass so went sub hunting. Ended up buying an Earthquake 10". That was the worst piece of audio gear I ever had. So, sold that and bought a Dayton Titanic III 10". I really can't believe how well it sounds. Very powerful, deep, clean, tight, loud, and musical. I prefer it to the Velodyne. I simply cannot say enough good things about it. I borrowed a Titanic III 15" from a friend and the 10" kills the 15". No joke. It goes deeper and is cleaner and more musical. I think the 15" is in an enclosure that is too small for the driver. System: Arcam 72cd Parasound PLD-1100 preamp Bryston 4B-SST amp Dynaudio Audience 42 Titanic III 10"

Summary:
I purchased this sub with music as a priority. This sub has met my expectations, and will remain for some years I believe as my "flagship" music sub. My velodyne CT-120 is louder and *possibly a little deeper. Yet this dayton plays very low for a 10" sealed sub. I have listened to a Martin Logan Dynamo very intensly, it was either the ML or the Dayton. The price made my decision for me. This is a great sub for those who are budget concious and need a great smaller sub for music and home theater. This is my first sealed sub and despite my fears of a good airtight assembly, it pieced together seamlessly... and plays deeper than expected. Overall I'm happy with this product, I'm still a die-hard velodyne fan and dream of owning an SPL-10, HGS, or Digital Drive series... This product is for you IF: you are budget concious, desire a low distortion sub in a small package at a good price that woops the tar out of many would be subwoofers. I would recommend that you be somewhat competent in Do-it-yourself projects... Although this sub was easy to put together if your a silver-spoon baby then pay someone else the money for a completed sub.
