Review 1 of 2

Price Paid:  $50.00 from eBay

Summary:
Did some renovations for my daughter's bedroom and decided to go with some in-ceiling speakers to save space. Installation of speakers were extremely easy. Hardest part of the process was the running of the wires. The system is powered by a small Panasonic mini stereo. Music is clear and dispersion is good. The lows, as expected from such a small speaker is not very good.

I would certainly recommend these speakers for background music or possibly used as rears in a small home theatre setup.

Strengths:
Very clear sounds, easy to install

Weaknesses:
Lacks bass

Similar Products Used:
Tested HomeTech, JBL, Sonance, Omage and other Niles speakers.

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
Not many reviews here of Niles audio speakers, so let me tell you about them. I heard that they won first prize among outdoor speaker review on audio magazines - and it's no surprise to me. They have pretty sound. Highs are pretty transparent and pretty sounding - sopranos and flutes sound beautiful. Mid range is nice and soft kind. Bass is lacking as you might have expected from this size speaker, but if you pair it with mid-fi electronics, you are in for a surprizingly sophisticated musical experience. Niles audio also mkes higher end speakers, so they know what they are doing, and when they made this entry level product, they kept pretty high standard and have offered speaker that is little known secret in value and aesthetics. I would mate them with at least the quality of up-scale Japanese products or higher. Onkyo has 2 channel 100 watts integrated amp ($300 at circuit city and other internet autio shops) that would do justice to niles' products. This amp has wide current, and discreet electronics - a cut above the standard entry level Japanese products.

Strengths:
Pretty pretty sound (especially the highs) ! Dispersion is good and wide.

Weaknesses:
Since they have no ports to add the bass as other 2 way speakers of this size do, the bass is lacking.

Marantz MA-9S2 Power AmplifierThe list above has one tenet that I continue to hold true: high powered amplifiers are necessary to reproduce the full dynamic range of music with most speakers. This became apparent when I changed from the 100 Watt per channel Bella Extreme 100 to the 250 Watt.....

The unit arrived from China well packed and everything seem to be in place. No external abuse by the carriers. The only problem was the power supply it came with. The box came with a cheap step-down converter.
