Price Paid:  $800.00 from Cambridge Soundworks

Summary:
I bought these in February of '99. it was part of a package deal that sold for $1200 - 1300. The package deal included speakers, sub woofer and A/V receiver. I think the speakers and sub sold for $800 without the AVR at the time. Now they are priced lower than that ($600 - $700, I think). These speakers sound wonderful. My movies on DVD and HiFi VCR sound great. The music on CD or FM Stereo sound great too. The Bass Cube delivers full bass sound. For the money, you will be hard pressed to find a better set of speakers. You can find better speakers out there, but I do not think that their higher prices are justified by their performance. So if you like great sound, these are a great value. One thing to note, my set came with an upgraded center speaker (Center Channel Plus). They were sent to me because the original center speaker did not arrive with the rest of the speakers. As a result, Cambridge Soundworks upgraded my center speaker without me even asking for this (good customer service). I point this out because this probably makes my speakers perform a little better. But, I still think they are great even with the original center speaker. I wont give any product a 5 so I am giving this an enthusiastic 4+.

Strengths:
Sound, Size

Review 2 of 2

Summary:
i honestly wouldn't have bought this if not for such a great deal. $1,000 for speakers, sub, receiver, and dvd player. this system is great for beginners or more casual type users. if you really want more power and stronger bass from your speakers, i suggest buying the infinity overtures. i've tested them and they are excellent. this cambridge package here is excellent for small living rooms or larger bedrooms. it sure beats having an integrated bookshelf type home theater. very little distortion. just a good lower budget home theater system. not something for hi-end. comparing this deal to others within price range $1000 for all of the above i mentioned, this deserve all 5 stars.

Strengths:
low price, good for budget home theater, subwoofer has strong bass

Weaknesses:
rear speakers are somewhat weak

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
