Price Paid:  $200.00 from circuit city

Summary:
i bought these to replace a damaged pair of jbl century l100''s cause im too lazy to get them repaired . big mistake. you really get what you pay for with these speakers. no bracing, no damping material save for a piece of foam wedged near the top. the crossover is tiny and built into the input module. the high end is ringy, the midrange is fairly accurate though. the bass is well defined but lacks punch unless you place them really close to a wall. they''re really boxy sounding due to the complete lack of bracing. i used them for about a month and just gave up and went back to my vintage jbl''s even though one of the woofers was overdriven. i guess these speakers might be good as surrounds in a prologic system, but thats just my opinion. i love pioneer, all the equipment in my rack is pioneer, but these are not at all worthy of my stereo.

Strengths:
huh?...

Weaknesses:
a lot

Similar Products Used:
none... i dont normally buy crappy equipment.

Review 2 of 6

Price Paid:  $200.00 from Circuit City

Summary:
I found the product to be a great product for the money and a very nice front speaker but I have to agree with the other review it needs a subwoofer to make it sound more full and complete. The way the passive radiator is set up there is no way these speakers can handle 160 watts unless you bass is adjusted to it's lowest level possible. The cassing could be made more durable and out of a better material. The case also needs to go back much further so they sit better. They also need to replace the 6.5" radiator with a 6.5" woofer and somwhow seperate the two so the bottom 6.5" woofer has i'ts own section of box which would greatly improve bass response and accuracy.

There are manny possotive things about the speaker such as the highs. I can turn them up to a very high level and have the vocals still sound very clear and accurate. And with the sony-DE-845 you can adjust your mids, highs, and lows to sound as accurate as the manufacturer intended them to be. I also love there overall look and style giving them a very expensve and high end feel.

I think a person building a hometheater and wants a good clean sound should purchase this product and also someone who loves music.

Strengths:
I found the strengths to be mainly in the tweeter and mids. The highs are very clean and the mids blend well. I also found the bass to be very accurate.

Weaknesses:
The weaknesses are that the bass may be very accurate but the passive radiator is not as tight as it could be and should be replaced with another 6.5" woofer.

Review 3 of 6

Price Paid:  $160.00 from Circuit City

Summary:
You definitely get what you pay for, but sometimes you get a little more. I bought a pair of these (at $80/ea.) after listening to them and several other smaller, "bookshelf" speakers. While the bass isn't anything to write home about, the highs (and to some extent the mids) are really quite good. Add a sub-woofer and you won't miss the lack of bass on these speakers, *and* you'll have really great highs on top.

I have my speakers sitting on carpet and I have not experienced any instability problems. They weigh enough not to be knocked over when something (or someone) brushes against them, but I wouldn't start leaning things on them or trying to balance the speakers on an uneven surface given their relatively high center of gravity.

Given their low cost and spectacular highs, their weak bass is more easily forgiven and (with the addition of a sub-woofer) soon forgotten.

Strengths:
Price. Appearance. Highs.

Weaknesses:
Lows. (Easily remedied if you have a sub-woofer.)

Review 4 of 6

Price Paid:  $110.00 from london drugs

Summary:
For the price they are worth it. compared to any expensive speaker they are left in the dust. Maybe in a smaller room they would be better, my room is a good size room. maybe if a guy has a powered sub put it right in the middle like i did and holy sh!t good high;s soo soo mid range. and bass with the sub kicked as$!!

Strengths:
Good highs. Low cost. nice looking speaker. sounds pretty good for $55 bucks each. can't really go wrong if the money is tight.

Weaknesses:
For #2 6 1/2 the bass was way short of what i hoped it would be. Any time a guy turned some good bass songs on the bottom 6.5 start to pop. Goes loud but not loud enough.

Review 5 of 6

Price Paid:  $160.00 from N/A

Summary:
This is an average pair of tower speakers, from a pretty reliable brand, these offer a good size for a person beggining to build a home theater, but they replace the bass port with a passive radiator (a additional 6.5" cone to filter out energy), which is good and bad. These speakers offer tremendous highs, through well designed tweeter and mid, good if you have or plan to buy a subwoofer, these speakers are definitely worth the money, I'd reccomend them to a begginer stereo user, or a person who needs good highs out of there mains.

Strengths:
+Looks Good +Good Highs +Passive Radiator +Tower Design +Price +Good for Gaming Consoles & stereo DVD +Low Distortion

Weaknesses:
-Bass -Rumble -Width -Bass Port -Bad Targeting -Unstable
