2 way, rear vented speakers sound really good together with a powered subwoofer. They are good speakers without a subwoofer listening to music and CDs, but, I recommend using a powered subwoofer when watching DVDs. I've tried these speakers alone without a subwoofer watching "Fight Club," and I didn't feel like it carried enough bass. I could tell especially the plane crash scene and the last scene. Overall, they are great speakers but I think they are a little pricey. But then, I am not an audio enthusiast so I don't pay such close attention to great audio details.
