The 390is often referred to as the poor man’s Totem Arro and for good reason.
Both speakers are of the same two way; front firing design and have surprisingly solid low end response with the type of smooth and detailed highs you would expect from a two day design.
The 390is uses very good quality drivers. The injection molded 6 ½” woofer can track down all the way to 35hz that is a full 5hz lower than the Totem Arro’s that are well regarded for their lively bass response! The highs are crisply handed by a full liquid cooled 1” titanium tweeter that can take the frequency response up to an impressive 22kHz once again besting the Totem Arro in this category.
Sensitivity is rated at 89db; making the Mirage a more efficient speaker than the Totem that measures in at 87db by comparison One other nice feature of the Mirage is that it has an 8ohm impedance rating making it easily driven by more modest amplification whereas the Totem has a more demanding 4ohm rating. Both speakers are bi-amp compatible and have full three way binding posts.
The Mirage 390is has very good quality drivers and a nicely sized and constructed cabinet for excellent sonics. Bass response is unbelievably solid for a speaker of this size and yet is still boasts the type of detail and accuracy you would expect from a bookshelf studio monitor.
If you like a very detailed speaker with impressive low end you will be hard pressed to find better value. For the money these typically sell for used they are hidden gem in a crowded market.
