Strength:

Great Loud Sound, Nice smooth bass and very little distortion. Great loudspeakers!

Weakness:

ability to withstand high wattage power.

I recently replaced my 2 10'' aiwa speakers with these KLH ones and they rock! I bought them new as a pair for 140$ and for the price the quality is excellent! I highly recommend these speakers to anyone who wants good quality speakers at a reasonable price!

A little history: I purchased a pair of these for my home theater system mains quite some time ago. At first I thought they weren't such a great speaker. I was looking for great bass and they just didn't have it - yet. In the meantime, I bought two pairs of Paradigm Phantoms (ver. 2), for mains and rears, hoping they would give me the solid punch I wanted. Imagine my disappointment when these speakers also failed to live up to my expectations!! BTW, I did have the Paradigm PDR-12 subwoofer all along, which handles everything LOW fine - but I want more from my mains.
Finally, I suspected my cabling (24 guage garbage). I decided to use Monster Cable HP/XP for every single speaker - BINGO. This cabling made a 500% difference in the low end. If you aren't getting much low end from your system - go with this cabling...I can't stress the phenomenal difference it made.

Even then, the Paradigm Phantoms couldn't handle the DVD, STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT explosions (when the Enterprise blows away the round Borg escape ship near the beginning caused severe distortion at the lowest end on the Phantoms)...but the KLH's sounded incredible - absolutely shook the room and I could hardly stand the thumping in my chest.

I use a Yamaha v992 receiver so I can have two sets of mains at 80W/Channel - AHA! The KLHs and Paradigms go great together to provide an entire WALL OF SOUND. The KLHs have proven to be excellent speakers for the price conscious. I would recommend them to just about anyone - unless you have thousands to spend on truly professional quality Monitors or the like. Oh ya, don't forget to use QUALITY speaker cabling!

Strength:

Fantastic sound for the money.

I was just getting into surround sound when I bought these, and at the time, I only had a Pioneer Pro-Logic receiver. I didn't have tons of money to blow, so I needed something inexpensive. After trying a few other speaker set-ups (Yamaha and a KLH satellite/subwoofer combo), I decided to try these. I was amazed! They certainly aren't giving me the kind of sound a $2,000 pair of speakers could, but, hell, these shake the walls and rattle the windows, and without much distortion. I now have a Yamaha RX-V795, and under the demands of the digital sound from DVDs and LaserDiscs, they hold up very, very well. DTS especially sounds amazing. Friends are always amazed by my sound system, despite the main speakers being so "cheap." (NOTE: my living room has hard wood floors and very little covering the walls. I'm not sure how the speakers would sound in a room with carpeting and other dampening features.)

These speakers are a great buy! The 12in woffer adds punchy base and the midrange and liquid cooled tweeter add great highs. Klh says they can handle up to 250RMS but I think the woofer can handle 150watts. IT IS NOT PORTED!! ;which is a big down side but it can still shake your house. They sound great and I boght them for $100 dollars shiping and handling. If you are interested in these speakers go to spidergear.com or e-mail me at Hartwee@stearnshs.k12.me.us. You are geting 170% for your money on these great speakers.

Strength:

Good value. Loud bass.

Weakness:

Poor high frequency reproduction.

If you want speakers that can play loud without a lot of distortion for under $100/pair, these are great speakers. If you want something with good sound reproduction at lower volumes these probably aren't the best choice. They're a great value, but, they dont sound as good as infinity or cerwin-vega.

Strength:

Great sound for the price, works well even with the cheapest of stereos

Weakness:

none for this price

When I purchased these speakers, I had a cheap department store stereo (a Panasonic mini-system) that I wanted to get the most out of until I could afford a better reciever. I still have not purchased a better reciever, but they worked miricles for this. I believe that the Panasonic has 6 watts per channel, and this little bit of power makes the entire house rumble - no joke. When mine were new they cost me $89.99 a piece, but I noticed recently that they have completely different drivers and are about $40 cheaper making the pair cost about $100 at Best Buy. I don't know if they are still as good, but it looks like the 15" model may be the equivilent in price, value, and sound to what my two year old model was. If your a kid like me - or well - almost 18, buy these, and get an Onkyo 575 reciever like I plan to do and you will not be sorry - I promise you.
