I own a small audio shop in Ca and have heard many speakers at many different prices. I have noticed that the industry has shifted to lower quality higher cost products that just dont make the cut any more. I ran across the fairly new company Kerlegan Audio in SJ, CA. I read their information on their new SS series and was really interested. After ordering a pair I fond the quality of craftsmanship to be superior to products even three times their cost. After pluggin them up to our demo stae I broke them in for quite a while like I normally do. What happened then was pure amazment. I heard such a grand sound that I have never heard before at this price. The midrange was warm and clear with great transparent highs. The subtle blend of the highs and mids were very smooth. The most mind blowing part of these speakers is their ability to throw out an amazing sound stage with pinpoint imaging. I have never encoutered this feat with speakers this size before (45h x 9.5w x 12d). The rear ported design gave me plenty of solid bass reproduction with no boominess or over exaggeration of low notes. All in all these speaker are a steal at this price and I believe that you will not find a better speaker in this price catergory. So if you are looking for a furniture grade quality speaker and your budget is $2000 or less then the 7b's are for you. If you do get one get the cherry its magnificent. Oh by the way this speaker has now out sold all of my other lines including B&W, JM Labs Utopia line and even teh Vandersteens I carry.

One day while cruising the net for a new pair of speakers I ran across a company called Kerlegan Audio. After viewing their webpage which is still being renovated I was thoroughly interested in their newly released SS Series which featured Scan-Speak drivers. It has become my experience that majority of the manufactuers using these drivers are quite sucessful but are very expensive. I recently auditioned a pair of Pro Ac's 3.8's and loved them but their hefty price was way out of my league. I was very interested in the warm sound that I heard and was naturally attracted to the SS 7's which are a MTM design using the Scan Speak 8545's and the Revelator tweeter. The price was right down my alley being priced at a steal for $2050.
After speaking with Jeff Kerlegan, President of Kerlegan Audio I was confident and satified with his description of the speakers and his time and effort he put into our conversations. So I decided to order a pair in a rich mahogany finish which consequently is a standard finish (oak, birch, walnut & cherry as well). After I recieved the speakers I was amazed at the quality of the finish and stout size of the speakers (45x10x12.25 and weighing over 95 pounds each). With a quick knuckle wrap I concluded that these speakers were built to last. I was told that these speakers are built with 1.25 MDF with extensive horizontal & vertical cross bracing. Internally these speakers are deadened with a proprietaty compound and practically makes the cabinet inert.

It was now time to connect these bad boys up to my Cary 805's and see what these could do. During the process of hooking up my cables I was also surprised at the high quality Edison Price Post connections that were provided in a bi-wire ready state at no additional charge. I proceeded to burn the speakers in for about 150 hours before I got down to some critical listening. With my love of acoustical recordings one of my first stops was Eric Clapton live which after hearing the first track blew my mind. The tweeter was extremely spacious and transparent as well as quick. The mids were warm and detailed like no other speaker at this price range or even twice the retail price. As I set back and listened more I grew more and more love with the sound and had a felling of excitement with my music that I haven't felt in a long time.

I must say that at first I was a little hesitant to go with these speaker being from a company I am no familiar with but luckily I shrugged that feeling and went on to experience some of the most dynamic sound reproduction I have heard up to date. I would definately recommend the SS 7's to any one in the market for a high quality low priced speaker with extreme detal and warmth. I think I am luck and got in on the ground floor on this one casue I got a feeling that Kerlegan Audio is going places and will probaly make a big splash with this new series of loudspeakers.
