Strength:

Cheap, relatively compact subs.

Weakness:

Hollow-sounding bass. A pain to wire up.

I bought a set of these as my first foray into Home Theatre and used them for about two years. For the price they weren''t bad, but they''re nothing to rave about either. The two subs produce a hollow, one-note kind of bass -- kind of like the effect you get when you blow across the open mouth of a jug. After a while I sold the subs for $79 and kept the two small speakers to use as computer speakers.

Similar Products Used:

Don''t generally like sub/sat systems. They always have problems!

I recently purchased the Music 1 system from UBID. The speaker system sounds good. However it is week in the mid range. But for a compact system it is great.

Strength:

Light weight. Easy to move. Does not take up too much room.

Weakness:

Don't laugh. I paid $700 for these when they first came out in 1996.

As a traveling consultant I needed something portable, but that also sounded good. I thought the JBL's sounded good, but my audiophile friend raged on them so much, I ended up putting them in the closet and upgrading to Polk 2000's (big speakers). No one complains about Polks. Maybe some day, I'll dust off those JBL's. I thought they sounded OK, but the Polks; they sound great. I think these speakers (Music 1, and Flix 1) ruined JBL's reputation.

Similar Products Used:

I've tried them all. BA, Inf, Yam, Pio, Tech, KEF, Klipsch, AR, Bose, Philips. Polk beats them all.

I had a set of Music 1's. Luckily they don't sell them any more. The ports hummed terribly. The sat's were OK. Luckily I blew mine too. They couldn't repair the hermetically sealed speaker box so I got a 100% trade in. If you have a set of these and hate them, (I really did HATE them.) I suggest you blow them too.

Purchased this from UBID for $50 about a month ago for the first time. I found that my local dealer would give me $180 for a trade in so i didnt even bring them home i traded them in right away for paradign titans which by the way, i love. Anyways i decided to get a set of these to keep for my bedroom system. Well, they arrived yesterday and to my dissapointment the wire manager was not even packed in the box, i got them home and wired them conventionally, upon turning them on i was disgusted to notice that the midrange driver in the left satellite was not operating at all. What a disapointment. Anyways JBL was no help and UBID has yet to let me know hwat they are going to do. For now i have the two passive subs and the one functioning satellite hoked up. These speakers are very unimpressive. The sound out of them is more of a boom box quality then anything else. Highs are way too sharp and lows are very distorted. I would not recomened picking these up, the speaker box is sealed and cannot be repaired, JBL has no replacement. Look elsewhere, even at 50 dollars, not a very good deal. Whoever spent the 600 these once cost must have been horrifyed to get them home. JBL has really been making poorer and poorer products. 2 starts because they were so cheap. Stay clear of these speakers

Well, tried another set from UBID for $50 , this time one of the sub's is dead, seems like the auction they have every day for these is full of defective merchandise. I dont recommend buying these from there as JBL has done nothing to take care of my problem and UBID has had 2 weeks and still no satisfactions from them. Out of the two sets i bought i was able to get one complete set that works by mixing parts. I have to admit, for 50 doolars these cannot be beat, period, they sound amazing for 50 bucks. But for the 650 they used to sell ofr they are a joke. I am giving one star this time for UBID experience becaus ei would imagine that is where most of you are considering buying them from.

Well, one more time. UBID finally got back to me, they are allowing me to return a defective set. So in essence i did get a really nice set of speakers for $50. THese are great for a bedroom set or just room listening. They cannot handle real home theater though and i feel they are much better for music. The ports on mine don't hum and i have to admit the sound quality on music is close to my Paradign's only at low volume levels though. For $50 go ahead and try and score a pair at UBID. I'd say its 50/50 that you will get a complete set in working order but hey, i guess if it doesnt work out you can always send them back. I will give 4 here to make up for my one earlier. I dont feel it is a problem with the speakers, rather the handling they have experienced in the warehouse for the 4 years they have been around.

Got this pair of speakers for 50% off (or just marketing strategyto show lower tag price). Anyway, the system comes with 2 sub and 2 satellites and they look neat because they have nice design. They can be placed inside a room quite conviniently in diff. places (that's what I like with sat-sub system).

The sound imaging is really great. I had Wharfedale and Jamo of the same category but it just sound great. I had some disappointment recently when
I used the speaker in a party. The satellites can't just handle continuous music at higher volume (set below distortion level, of course). They were burned (kaput)and the party has to stop unfortunately. I had them repaired, thanks for the 5 year warranty of the product, but it came to my surprise that when they repaired the sat, they put completely different specs of speakers. Its a pity because when I play music, it produced unbalanced sound.

If you are planning to score this, they are great for home theater or for room listening. Never use it on a party...
