I bought these speakers without hearing them and by the great reviews. I was very pleasantly surprised , terrific imagery, clarity , bass performance . I have had many speakers of repute over forty years including IMF Quad 63 which I still have but these little gems stay on my leads all of the time these days equipment is Quad66 /606 Linn Sondek Cyrus 8x se Great speakers when on good stands and away from walls Just listen to well recorded tracks such as Armatrading Love and affection and the 14 track on Titanic for bass and voice imagery dead centre. I bought these speakers without ever hearing them..We've all done it, so don't act like you haven't. I can't stand bright sounding speakers, or anything else for that matter. In spite of what any or all of the other reviews have said, I feel certain that they are one thing for sure....NOT BRIGHT... These speakers make acoustic music comne alive in a very natural way. Smooth and clear is the word for these babies. I have added the Epos Subwoofer to mine and couldn't be happier. I use a Classe Cap 80 to drive these and they sing.
I've owned so many speakers in my life....Magnepans, Apogees, TDL's, Klipsch, Avid, Kef, Dahlquist and so on, and I can tell you that these are some of the finest that I've ever owned. Someday I'll change just for the sake of change, but if you're looking for a monitor speaker that tells the truth, bass, mid and treble, this is the one.

Epos are not brite or brittle or harsh sounding. They are the truth. Its the upstream electronics thats harsh.
No the Epos are not perfect. but their shortcoming is error of omission.

Bass does not go low, sibilence

This review is my comment (agree and disagree) on some of the other reviews posted on the internet regarding the Epos M12.2. My system setup is Densen DM10, Cambridge Audio 640C V2, Van Den Hull 102 Mk III interconnect and MIT Terminator 4 speaker cable. The speakers are placed about 40cm from the front wall. Ceiling is 10ft high. Room is approximately 280 sq. ft in area.

The speakers are well built with nice finishing. At first listening, it's obvious that this Epos has excellent clarity. They sounded smooth and transparent. Soundstage is wide and deep, depending on the placement from the wall. Imaging is well defined with good separation between instruments/voices.

Bass is deep, fast and controlled but does not go low as expected for its size. The manual quoted 60Hz.

Treble is not harsh but bright and at times can be overpowering. Long listening does not cause fatigue. Cymbal sounded crisp and realistic to me.

The mid band is very detailed and well projected. You hear a lot of things that you are not aware of with other speakers. The more I listen to the speakers, the more I realized how natural and real voices and instruments sounded. The upper mid sounded slightly thin though. There was no hint of nasality at all in male or female voices. Vocal although clear and focus has one major setback: some sort of “sh.......ss” or sibilance. I found the “sh.....ss” very irritating initially but with prolong listening somehow does not seems to bother anymore.

The Epos is sensitive to source material. Poorly recorded CDs and old analogue recording are presented as they are while audiophile recording sounded good. The Epos M12.2 is also very sensitive to ancillary changes.

For the asking price, these speakers give exceptional value for money, considering that the street price is much less than the recommended consumer price. Potential loudspeakers buyers should audition these speakers and decide for themselves whether they like these speakers. A cousin of mine has a casual listen to the speakers. He was impressed and like the Epos M12.2. As for me, I wish the Epos can go a couple of Hz lower in the bass region.

These speakers are a great value. They have a beautiful midrange and they are fast and responsive. The treble can sound harsh sometime and the midrange may be a bit thin but they are very competent and musical speakers.

These speakers are one of the best value at the price. They have a beautiful mdrange and great rythme. Sometimes the aluminium tweeter can sound harsh and metallic. But as whole they are very competent and musical speakers.

· Perhaps only one - transparency (with respect to separation of instruments) gets somewhat lost when the music gets ‘busy’, but I am pretty sure that is a failing of my other equipment and NOT the speakers fault

What an excellent product – a real all round, great performer. Rest assured audio hounds, if you buy these budget ‘noisemakers’ you are getting superb value for money as they sound like they cost a lot more. All coming a very competent (and fine looking) package that is practically guaranteed to make all your music sound great.

I listened to this speaker in a close A-B with Epos’ other smaller ‘bookshelf’ the M5 and it…wasn’t…even…close. Look up some of the many glowing reviews on the M5 (like runner-up in Stereophile’s 2005 Budget Product of the Year for one) and you’ll see how good the M12.2 must have to be to best it.

But don’t take my word for it that the M12.2’s are better, let Epos tell you: “The M5 is a very good speaker, but to our ears the M12.2 has some magic that the M5 dose not.”

In the end for me, it had all the faithful accuracy & quality, all the musicality & soul, and all the PRaT & ‘boogie factor’ I was looking for. And similar to the other reviewer - mine too aren’t even broken in yet!

I liked these speakers from the minute I heard them. Very transparent with a high degree of clarity, focus, and excellent separation. There isn't any musical exaggeration. Incredibily neutral and very listenable.
