Good frequency response 25Hz to 100Hz.

I don't know if it is really a weakness but make sure you use a good cable for connecting it to your receiver or you will get hum.

I've only used this sub for a few weeks but I am very impressed with the bass from it. I also have the Take 5 system for my speakers and for a budget HT system it can't be beat. I also recommend Marc Hallam at the Audioshop in Canada, http://www.audioshop.on.ca. He is very friendly and you will be hard pressed to beat the prices with the exchange rate. I paid around $750.00 U.S. for the Take 5's, the e:XLS-10 subwoofer, and a pair of HT-3 stands including shipping(2nd day FedEx). If you don't want to make holes in your walls for the surrounds these stands are the way to go.

Of course, got mine from Marc Hallum up at that Canadian music shop. Orginally purchased from Tatum Electronics.. STAY AWAY (10 weeks, no delivery... currently my credit card company is after them).

Sounds great.. not much too add. The hum some may talk about is due to the cable they use. I am running 25' of Acoustic Research sub cable ($15-20). Pretty cheap compared to monster. Mine was directional (had an arrow)... no hum at all.

All in all this and the Take 5 kick ass....

I have nothing to add to the previous reviews. I can't imagine subwoofers getting much better than this. Got it for $293 at www.audioshop.on.ca which brings me to where you should buy your Energy speakers/subwoofer (or any other good audio equipment for that matter). Talk to Marc Hallam, you won't find better service than with him. Wish there were more salespeople like him. I had a faulty Take 5 speaker (the plastic bracket holding the tweeter was cracked and so the tweeter was recessed). Without hesitation, he called up FedEx to come pick it up and sent me out a new one. No cost to me.

I originally ordered the Take 5 with the ES10 sub but found it to be too directional and also didn't seem to go as low as I had expected. Marc Hallam at Audioshop was very helpful and allowed me to make an upgrade to the exl-S10 for only about $50 (US) add'l. I find this sub to definitely go lower (and Energy claims louder but that wasn't an issue for my room), it also is MUCH less sensitive to location, evidently due to the rear port. It is an excellent value and mates well with the Take 5. I didn't try the exl-S8 in my room but I wanted as much extension as possible...(exl-S8 rated to 29hz, ES10 to 28hz, exl-S10 to 25hz) I'm sure the 8 would satisfy most but for a few $ more I'll take the extension, especially for HT use. I'm using a Pro-Logic receiver so I can't currently run the line input (and am also running sattelites fullrange) so I expect even better dynamics, etc when I move to DD. The only other sub with this level of performance was the Velodyne CT100 but it was more $ and besides, all other things being equal why not stick to a "matched" system. Don't be fooled by cheap JBL, Infinity, etc designs that look good on specs but can't produce...this ones the real deal.

I had my Energy Exl-S10 for about a week now. Originally,
I use the sub input and not sure how to adjust the level
and low pass control. Now I connect to the xover input
direct to my sub out from my Denon AVR 2800. Boy,
the base is so great, even watching TV make a hell
of difference, let alone DVDs. I know this is not
the abosulte best sub, but for ordinary people, it is
enough. Some reviews say it cannot produce good base
under 35hz when at reference level. I listen to
DVD well below listen level and feel loud enough.

Awesome crossover adjustment and build quality!

Awesome subwoofer for the price. It will make other makes scratch their heads price per performance ratio! Mated with Energy C-2's these subs becomes uni-locational. I believe the 100W RMS power rating is a conservative rating. It is more 150W to 160W I reckon..... THANKS ENERGY!!!!!! 5 STARS on everything!

When I went shopping for a subwoofer to match with my Energy e:XL25's, I first spent quite a lot of time looking at reviews (including lots at this site), and after reading numerous articles, I narrowed down my choices to the Infinity BU-2 (best bang for the buck), the Energy eXLS8 (also a nice performer), and the eXLS10. Ultimately, after listening to all three at a local dealer, I decided on the XLS10 for the following reasons.
1. I ruled out the XLS8 just because I preferred a slightly larger, more powerful sub. This is not to say the XLS8 is a poor performer, just that I wanted something a little bit bigger.

2. The XLS10 sounded GREAT for the price. In all my listening tests, both at the dealer and at home, I was unable to localize the sub regardless of what setting its bandpass filter was set to. Also, the bass that this sub produces is very clean and punchy, without a hint of boominess. It's very hard to believe that this sub's rated power output is only 100 watts.

3. GREAT price. Found this sub at netmarket.com for $299, plus about $25 for shipping. The box arrived at my door in 4 days.

Of course, the other two subs I mentioned are excellent performers in their own right. Who knows, I may end up buying a BU-2 or XLS8 as a second sub in the future!

None, especialy for the price

Just picked up this sub for 279.95 + tax. Energy as well as other Canadian speakers seem to be very competively priced due to the exchange rate. Very please with this sub, great power, clean, clear & not at all boomy.
Listened to quite a few, can't beat it for the price. Build quality is very high. Real wood cabinet, not vinyl or plastic. Mine is a eXLS-10. Make sure you use a good quality cable to connect it to your receiver or you will get a hum.

This is an unbelieveable sub. Orginally got the 8" sub by reccomendation that the 10 did little more. WRONG. This 10" sub ROCKS. The bass reproduction is very explosive. It also handily plays music passages beautifully. I would highly reccomend this sub for anyone looking for an under $500 sub. You will not find a better value, especially if you buy it from some place like The Audioshop in Canada. This thing can be had for less than $350 US delivered. WOW!

Very pleased with this sub. It puts out lots of CLEAN bass and only breaks up if you have the sub's level turned too high. I'm pushing it with a Sony STRBD930 receiver. I also have 4 of the e:XL-15s for surrounds and the e:XL-C for a center speaker. A great system for movies OR music
