I bought the Dali Blue 5005 for years after long tests by a local dealer. I could compare it fully to all other brands that was avaible at these time in Switzerland. The 5005 was astonishing. He pleased me better than the other "edition blue" brothers and sister of the same brand. He was so detailed as the others, and had a sensible gain of fluidity and musicality. Coherent would be the right word at this place.

Coupled with a nad 320, the sound have a warm touch, a correct dynamic response and seem very large. You have no harshness or unnatural sounding things with him. He have a good way to give you the best of very active music styles and is damn fast. But at the other side, the speaker don't lack on emotions. He is so good on a Acdc highway to hell as on a Tracy chapman's most tender songs. He brings a lot of light in Pink floyd wish you were here and bring explosive capcities when it comes to a System Of a Down song. He's not stressed by complex and fast idm arrangements on the Boards of canada albums. Only when it comes to absolutely precision, for example in some classical music, some other speakers could give you better things. He's not so detailed on this kind of music as the top references to me. But even so, you don't have a bad impression and the music stay enjoyable.

This is a really good speaker for those who want to enjoy all kind of music and can't pay 3'000 bucks for reaching the "next level".

Yes, it didn't eat the top notch references for breakfast. But he have all the good things you need for listening music in a good quality.

Looking at this, the 1900 dollars I paid in the swiss shop for the pair was absolutely good.

These are a great floor standing unit for the price. I have heard many speakers better than these but none that come even close to the cost of 5005's. I think I paid $900pr from memory. I also know a few things about the construction of Dali's & I know that they get tested very well before production.

The frequency range & responce is impressive & with a decent receiver will put out a very crisp, clear & precise sound. They are a hifi/home theatre speaker, not a party speaker & so placement & toe-in will have a huge bearing on the sound staging (distance, direction & surround effect).

For a 2 way speaker they cover a great range of sounds & the volume/dB output is impressive. They have no difficulty in filling large rooms, in fact more often than not, they sound better in a larger room. I've never used them outdoors but I'd be confident that they'd serve well.

Strength:

I like the fact that the Dali's are efficient enabling me to use my little NAD 7225 Receiver and having enough power. My room is 14' x 19' and they seem to fill up the room. They are smooth and have full response. I think they sound good with radio too and that's the reason I returned a pair of Definitive Technology's 8B that I got on sale. They sounded terrible with the radio. That is the only way I can get a sample of new music to listen too. Also, the Dali's sound great with the TV too. The program seems to come to life.

Weakness:

The speakers took a long time to break in and require fairly precise placement.

Overall I like the speakers because they were more affordable then most floorstanding speakers with an ample amount of bass response.
