Need good/true high current amp, not for quiet listening best >40db. Tried a 30w NAD and had to crank it ovet 80% to enjoy them...better use tougher amp.

Not really for movies- need central voice speaker or at least reduce bass to compensate for it.

I bought these off kijiji and they sound amazing for our bedroom with a 12inch passive sub and well worth the money have no regrets at all clear with rock and awesome bass with reggae. I was a DJ for many years and played on JR earthquakes and for a house I got me mostly Cerwins and don't like any other speakers

Loud. Great bass. Overall a very nice set of speakers, although those who are true audiophiles may be turned off from the lack of clarity. By true audiophile I mean someone who can hear the difference and care, not the people who care but can't hear the difference.

Like I have said a bunch of times already mid-range muddiness. Higher frequencies actually sound pretty good, but the mid-range is lacking.

When I saw these speakers for just $25 at a Goodwill I snapped them up. They are replacing some old Boston HD5's that I also got at Goodwill. I am overall very happy with these speakers. While they can sound a bit muddy, especially compared to my HD5's which had great clarity, they still deliver a very enjoyable listening experience. I have found they are best for music, the louder the better. In games they tend to lose too much detail, the same for movies. These would make great surround speakers, despite being a little large for the task.

These speakers are horrible dont buy them. They dont sound detailed at all. The cabinetry is horrible build quality.

Do yourself a favour, go buy some paradigm.

Ok, i bought these VS80s on a sale and they are excellent. I know a lot of so-called audio experts think they are terrible but i know what i like when i hear it. These speakers are very clear and powerful, the high frequency could doa bit better but i've sat in the hi-fi shop the whole day comparing them
with JBL, Kef, B&W and several others. Every time i turned the CV's back
on the music just became ..ehrm.. music! I've also visited with a so-called 'audio expert' who had a tube amp and 'Lowther' speakers about 5 times more expensive and they didn't sound much better than the CV's and worse on anything but soft-pop like Janis Ian. If you enjoy listening to music a lot (ie most of the day), buy Cerwin Vega, they rock.

What's the best way in upgrading your baby or mini component to have a capable of GAAR !!! but less pain.? Look... First, Because not all mini component set could be upgraded this way that's up to your system sound charactersitics. VS-80 suit for system which have at least these 2 characteristics
1. 35 Watts(rms.) or more power output
2. Have manual equalizer.
I uses Panasonic CH-33, 40 Watts X 2 that I strongly recommend who own this model of stereo component to try VS-80. With its manual equalizer, it can rock you, soft you or even boom your home as mini home theatre system, this's true especially I now uses this system for my multi-media computer which good for midi, video CD and oh yeah..! for game.

I purchased my vs80's about five years ago and Li used them for my music studio and now I used them for my hometheater front speakers. The only drawback was that they are magnetized and so I had to position carefully. I did look around for other bookshelf speakers that are magnetized but knew they weren't going to come close in performance, especially the bass. These speakers meet or exceed some tower speakers with the same woofer, I don't even use or need a sub-woofer.I highly recommend these speakers. I got mine for $100 each.

I purchased these speakers about five years ago and I used them for my studio and now I used them for front speakers for my pro-logic set up. The performance is great especially the bass, the only drawback is that its not magnetically-shielded, I think they were manufactered before home theater was popular. Anyway, I thought of buying other bookshelf speakers, even towers but the bass can down to 38hz. I bought a pair of Infinitys and a pair of jbl towers and they were terrible. I highly recommend these speakers, I got them for $200/pair.

I purchased the VS-80's to go with my VS-120's as surround speakers. Not only do they sound great by themselves, they are even more impressive to use as surround speakers for a Dolby Digital home theater. Since Dolby Digital provides full frequency range to all channels it takes full advantage of the VS-80's 38-20000Hz range. I recommend anyone interested in a home theater with great overall sound to use these as I have for surround speakers.
