Strength:

Great base sound and high volume without distortion, lots of attractive anodised colours compact

Weakness:

Finish is easily damaged if not wall mounted showing bare metal under the coloured alumium surface. As the speakers have no feet if shelf mounted the base can get scratched easily

Very impressive bass response for their relatively small size. I use them as a PC speakers and they do a very fine job. My tip is to use Global equalizer with your OS and give a gentle boost to lower frequencies, and these speakers will sound amazing. It is difficult to understand where all that bass comes from!
These are not true audiophile speakers, as you can not control them 100%. For example - if you give them "too much" bass, the build in amplifier will dampen the sound to prevent damage to the speaker elements.
The other problem I have with them is that they emit a loud "click" when they are switched on/off. This is somewhat disturbing. I wish that clicking sound was much quieter.
Otherwise, i think that Beolab's 4000 are fantastic, specially nowdays, when you can find them in used conditon at around 400-450 euro. That is an absolute bargain price.

This speakers are excellent considering the size. Very happy with them. Partnered with a beosound 4000, the speakers sit on my desk in office. If I got down the hifi component route, I would have to spend just as much money, not to mention the space taken up by all the equipments that would make my office a messy. Well you might get better sound for a lower price, but you'll need to spend a lot of time to make a match like that and not to mention the time and space taken up. If time ans space is luxury to you i would wholeheartedly recommend this system. This is huge upgrade over the beosound 2500 which i used before.

I am using Duntech Sovereign in my hall so i know these speakers mean serious business

Strength:

Design, near-perfect treble, realistic sound quality, great musical ability, very powerful, price.

Weakness:

May need the addition of a subwoofer in a dolby surround setup.

These are the most impressive speakers you may come across for the price and size.

The sound is utterly sublime, balanced and natural possibly one of B&O best products. I have mine as main speakers on their floorstands in my small lounge room with a BeoSound 4 and BeoVision 3-32 and they perform amazingly with any music / movie i put to them.

Had them over a year now and originally went to this site before deciding to buy them. I stand by each review posted here about these speakers. The experience is surreal when it's quiet and i sit in my listening position, close my eyes and turn them up.

When you own them you'll understand this completely and you'll never let them go!

Customer Service

Customer service and after sales service from B&o is as good as it gets.

Strength:

easy look and sound beautiful. I have a varied taste in muic and they cope with all genre's very well.

Weakness:

only price - but when you hear them perform even this diminishes.

They look very sexy in the silver/grey colour. Wil lthey sound as good as they look?
Ahhhh yes a much bigger and solid perfermer than other speakers of a similar size. I have fallen in love with the sound they produce from a beosound 3200, and have made a decision that I will never sell these speakers just simply upgrade and move to another room when I feel the need for a change.

A beautiful package! The BeoSound 4000 has an AM/FM tuner, cassette, and CD player. Very cool glass doors which open with a sweep of the hand. I love this unit! It can be wall-mounted or placed on a stand or table. Wonderful remote control operation. Like all B&O equipment, there is nothing else like it! Considering what you get for the $, it's a bargain.

Strength:

Amazing combination of design and technique. Extremely powerful despite its size.

Weakness:

Trebble a little big lacking in energy

The Bang&Olufsen brand invokes in people a lot of different opinions. What is often heard in the reviews on this web site is that the products do not offer enough value for money - that too much money is spent on design. Some of these statements are made out of ignorance and lack of cmpany information. Did you know that Bang&Olufsen has one of the best rooms available for measuring speakers called the Cube (used by i.e. KEF)? That a specific listening panel has been chosen to review old as well as new products in comparison with those of other brands? That Bang&Olufsen was the first to develop a pickup that could reproduce a stereo signal? That the dual, inbuilt amplifier technique used today is very complex and costly? That the company pursues a neutral sound philosophy whcih might be the reason why your Japanese products with their emphasis on bass and trebble sound more lively, however false?
Beolab 4000 is a fantastic product, demonstrating the overall superiority of the company's wish to combine design and sound quality. The low frequency response is unbelievable for a speaker this size (only 4 litres), sound is always comfortable but still not borring without the loudness-like character that characterizes so many other speakers. The high frequency response lacks a little in energy, but is never hard for your ears - even at high volume.
Beolab 4000 is a beautiful loudspeaker, and proof that good sound does not have to be in a huge black box in the corners of your living room. That is the concept of Bang&Olufsen. Beolab 4000 is a good example of the superb combination of creativity: the path-breaking technique used to make up for a small size. Beolab 4000 is craftsmanship at its best. And a very powerful one indeed. When my friends first heard the Beolab 4000, they were wondering where I had placed the subwoofer!

Strength:

FALT RESPONSE, EXCELLENT BASS RESPONSE FOR SUCH A SMALL SPEAKER

Weakness:

NONE

WENT TO LISTEN TO A SMALL PAIR OF B&W ABD HALES SPEAKERS, THEY WERE APPROX. $1800 A PAIR PLUS AN AMP FOR A GRAND OR TWO. SOUNDED VERY GOOD, LISTENED TO A PAIR OF 4000'S, THEY HAVE TWO AMPS BUILT INTO EACH OF THEM. I WENT BACK AND FORTH LISTENING TO EACH PAIR THE WHOLE TIME THINKING ("I NEED SEPERATES THAT'S WHAT I'M SUPPOSED TO DO") AND (GOOD LOOKING SPEAKERS CAN'T SOUND GOOD") IT'S ALL CRAP THE BANG & OLUFSEN SPEAKERS SOUNDED BETTER, QUITE A BIT BETTER. I PURCHASED THEM AND HAVE BEEN VERY HAPPY EVER SINCE. I DECIDED TO LEARN A LITTLE MORE ABOUT B&O, ONE OF THE OLDEST AUDIO COMPANIES IN THE WORLD. THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FIRST WIRELESS REMOTE CONTROL, THE FIRST STEREO PICKUP, FIRST SYSTEM WITH PRESET RADIO STATIONS AND THE FIRST RADIO TO USE ELECTRICITY INSTEAD OF BATTERIES BACK IN 1926,ONE TOUCH TO MUSIC, MULTI ROOM ALMOST TWENTY YEARS AGO, NOT BAD FOR A COMPANY "JUST BASED ON DESIGN" GO EDUCATE YOURSELVES BEFORE BEING SO JUDGEMENTAL!

You might ask yourself are these worth it? I do! We (the family) listen to a wide range of music. No matter what music is played, these speakers can handle it. We use them to play backgroud music or music at birthday parties, where they achieve an impressive sound pressure levels.
These speakers are no show ponies! Our friends jaws may drop in disbelief when we tell them how much they cost, but as soon as we turn the music on all that is forgotten. So! Listen with your ears not your wallet if you can.

Strength:

Beautifully balanced reproduction, high quality build, excellent customer support

Weakness:

No technical weaknesses, floor stand would be nice, prejudices of general public and HiFi press

I spent a lot of time trying to determine which story was correct, either "very poor value for money" or "incredible performance in a beautiful package". During this process I met a percussionist from the Berlin Philharmonic on an airplane. He told me a story of how he spent months choosing his new $4000 CD player only to realise once he jot it home that he actually preferred the sound from his Sanyo DVD player. The morale of the story is twofold, firstly, you listen to it so buy what you like and try not to be influenced by other people’s opinions and, secondly, you have to live with it so buy something you like to look at too.
The BeoLab 4000’s have constantly amazed me with their ability to cope will every kind of music from heavy metal to jazz (not much classical in my life). Interestingly they sound much better at home than they did in the shop.
What I initially thought was a lack of bass compared to my old B&W P6's turns out to be incorrect. In fact the B&W's are noticeably more hollow, with comparatively less life in the midrange and too much bass. But a lot of bass in the shop sells speakers and impresses your friends. However I could never go back to them now.
These 2 small speakers easily fill my sparsely furnished 45 sq. meter living room with fantastic sound whilst at the same time looking great and having a rock solid build quality. If you have only tried these speakers in the shop or have avoided them because of magazine reviews then you could be missing out. Overall, highly recommended - good work B&O.
