Just put a review abut jbl's sub135 and that same friend brought me over this cerwin vega center channel and when I hooked it up to my existing system it went well with my sony front speakers instead of the jbl center that I was using don't know if it was the size of the drivers which was 6.5inches compared to four inch drivers or the voices were more clear with this center it really made a difference when looking at action packed movies I would recommend it if you could come across one also it makes a perfect stand for any flat screen tv up to 50 inches it solidly build and has quite a bit of weight for its size iwould recommend it that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it

Strength:

Very Bright Sound

Weakness:

Distortion

I bought this speaker a while back from Best Buy before I really got into audio. I used to use it on my Pioneer receiver, and have now upgraded my reciever to a Yamaha RX-V595a. This center speaker is very very bright. High sounds such as guitars, doors creaking, glass breaking, guns cocking sound incredibly good on the center. If movies were just composed of those sounds then this center would be great. Any other sounds and you will notice some distortion. Voices are the big minus on this speaker. If the voice is a deep high you will definitely hear vibrations and distortions whenever they speak. Watch the Excalibur DVD and you will know what I mean. Through the entire movie it was almost like listening to a chalk board because of the reverberation. I've noticed this flaw through countless receivers I've hooked up to it and it only seems very noticable in voices (which are what most movies are composed of, so it can get annoying). Incredibly loud explosions played primarily through the center speaker also seem to be distorted. Overall, I was very happy with this center when I first bought it, but now that I tend to listen to it very carefully I am getting a little irritated by it so I am planning to upgrade to something better in the near future. If you are just a casual listener and don't tend to overanalyze things then this is a very good center for the price (I doubt, though, that you will find this model anymore), but if you want the best overall sound then go for a different name.

Strength:

Clean sound, especially highs.

Weakness:

Not as much bass as it should have, too big for 27" tv

I bought this center several years ago for my old Kenwood pro-logic receiver, before I knew anything about HT. It sounded okay then and it sounds okay now that its connected to my Onkyo 676. I will probably replace it within the next year (as funds become available), but for now its a solid all-around performer that doesn't do anything particularly well but doesn't do anything poorly either. Put it another way, it doesn't really enhance my HT experience but it does noticeably detract from it either.

Of course, for the same money today I would go with a JBL studio series center.

Note: I have this sitting on top of a 27" tv and though its a bit big, I haven't had any problems with the video shielding.

Strength:

Good voice sounds and pretty clear

Weakness:

Ported, so unless you crank it you loose bass response

I use this with the CV RE-30's, I got the center free when I purchased the RE-30's. Overall I am regretting the purchase. I put this head to head with my klipsch KG2.5 which has the same speaker configuration and while it could handle more power, the klispch was much clearer.

The Center really is a poor match for the RE-30's. The strength of the RE-30's is not their midrange and highs. The center does carry the voice well, but lacks bass due to the port. Most people do not crank their centers, like they would their front speakers. Basically the port just makes the speakers lack bass at normal movie and music volumes. I noticed a big improvement with clarity once I put monster cable into the center

I bought mine open box also. I could not find any info on the speaker either. i emailed cerwin vega and they sent me some specs: Frequency response 60Hz-20KHz power-120watts Sesnitivity- 92db Impedance- 8 Ohms Magnetic Shielding. I am not real impreesed with the speaker. I definitely plays loud like all Cerwins. It seems to have a lot of distortion and is a bit boomy. If you like the Cerwin sound you will like the speaker. I bought mine for $60.00 at Best Buy just to hold me over until I can afford a Polk cs-400.

Strength:

Construction, Liquid cooled tweeter, 6.5" mids

Weakness:

It's a little big to sit on top of most Tube TV's

I have always been a CV fan and this speaker reinforces that. Since I got into Home Theater I listen more carefully to what comes out of my system. I bought this speaker to replace a speaker that was not trully a center channel speaker. I hear people say that this speaker does not handle midrange lows well. I am trying to figure out how htey have thier systems set up. As more than 60% of all dialog comes through the center channel I have a good opportunity to listen to what this speaker does. I have friends who are more audiophile listen to it and tell what a grea spekaer it is. I have played movies and music on my system and then taken them and played them on my buddies 25k home theater system and in my environment it sounds every bit as good.

Strength:

solid construction, good tweeter, nice look

Weakness:

somewhat thin bass, ineffective shielding

I bought this center to compliment my CV Re-30's. On retrospect that was somewhat pointless because the drivers are completely different. And, sure enough, it doesn't sound like the upper range of the Re-30's as much as I'd like it to. But it has great highs and reasonable extension (a center this bulky should have better bass, IMO). My only real complaint is that the video shielding isn't effective and I've had to buffer the area between the speaker and the TV to avoid magnet leak. Also, I wish I'd only paid $60 like the one guy instead of $150!!! It's a good performer, though, and anyone who could find a used one would be happy.
