This is easy. Read Mario's Review from 1992 (I think). It's dead on. I love Boston Acoustic speakers and have had this speaker for many years now. It's far from the best that Boston makes. They have others that are great. I would only get this if you were on a tight budget and needed something to get you by until your next upgrade. That's what I did.

I consider myself to have a fairly picky ear. I have been totally satisfied with this speaker, as well as all BA products. The CR series are all tonally matched and sound exceptionally well with a Denon receiver. Add the recent addition of SACD technollogy, and I am in heaven!

small eclosure, can occationally surprise you at higher mid frequencies

can be 'restricted' and 'boxy' sounding. difficulty reproducing sound below 100hz. the speaker fails at high power, say arround 70Watts of unclipped programme. (12o'clock dial on a sony 110Watt receiver playing music on surround sound mode)

I have owned the CR2 for arround 3years now, In a nutshell you get what you pay for, specially when it comes to speakers, the CR2 delivers what you pay for, the sound is reasonably good but not fantastic, it can sound somewhat boxy at times compared to better quality speakers and spoken voice can even sound a little nasal. If you are looking for a good quality Centre speaker and are willing to pay a little extra I recommend against the CR2. On the other hand if you're not too fuzzed and have a small room it provides good detail at the higher mid frequencies. In such an event speaker matching with the front mains would 'hide' much of the imperfections, however if you have a reasonably good quality set of front main speakers the CR2 sticks out like a sore thumb. In summary, for the money you could hardly get better, it's good value for money. If you're looking for a good sounding centre speaker you may whant to shop someplace else, say B&W, or even Polk Audio. The bottom line is that speakers are as much a personal taste as clothing, go to the shop and listen to the thing with your favourite CD, check out some other options in other shops and then make your descition.

In addition to the sound, the metal grille is nice - nice looks and looks exactly the same as it did the day I bought it (no tears or anything like cloth).

I''ve had this speaker for almost two years now, and I love it. It''s got a nice smooth sound, with a decent amount of bass for its size. I think Boston replaced this model with the CRC, but they seem to have the same drivers according to their website. If the CRC sounds as good as this one, then I recommend you buy it if you''re looking for a great sounding speaker at a decent price.

Great sound! Wonderful clarity in dialog and sound effects are very smooth with equal clarity.

Ignore the price box above....it was a gift but the computer made me put something in the field...anyway, this center channel speaker from my brother in CA. was a wonderful and very thoughtful gift to go with the equally thoughtful girft of the DVD player he sent me too! I am using this with my Boston Accoustic CR6's that I had previously purchased. They are wonderfully matched and I am throughly enjoying the entire home theater that I have set up in my bedroom. If you are setting up a home theater system and you are on a budget but do want a great experience audibly...try this center channel speaker with the CR6's and a Denon 1602 DTS receiver or a Onyko Integra
5 series receiver with a Definitive Technology S80 subwoofer. You can get all of this and be out the door sans wiring for around 1200.00 This isn't cheap but again given that BOSE charges around 500.00 for a clock radio you can't go wrong!
