Strength:

Very neutral. Terrific drivers. Finally, a speaker that costs as much to buy as it does to build (relief for the DIY-guilt). The pulp woofer is fast. The dual concentric diaphragm tweeter is silk engineering at its best, but its complex impedance vs freq profile makes it a very difficult driver to design crossovers for. Bi-wire makes a very noticeable improvement. Terrific imaging that really lets you tune the rest of your system.

They say the asymmetrical spherical front reduces vibrations - couldn't verify this. These are heavy bookshelf speakers, and solid pillars for stands improves imaging. They are also beautiful cabinets (mine are cherrywood) - another reason not to banish them to a shelf.

Great near-field monitors, perhaps due to the waveguides in both the woofer and tweeter.

If I were brave, I would bi-amp them, replacing the speaker's crossover with a preamp crossover.

Weakness:

Never been a big fan of vented designs, but at least the D430 has its nicely tapered port on the back. Keep them away from corners, and you have a very clean lower midrange.

For over a year, had them connected to a minimalistic class-A set-up: a modded Pioneer DV-45A, a resistive attenuator, and a modded Adcom 555-II (old school Velodyne Foundation Series 15" bringing up the rear).

Can't see the need to go with D450's, since either way you will want a servo controlled sub that can easily compensate for the D450's bottom octave lacking in the D430.
