Chord Odyssey 2 is a bit stiff but it moulds to the skirting board quite well, and the white outer jacket is well disguised by the white paintwork of the wall. For an unasuming speaker cable the upgrade it gave my system was really noticeable - had been using QED XT before. I have been auditioning new speakers in my home for a couple of weeks. In the end there hasn't been a replacement I liked, so my local hifi dealer suggested I take home some speaker cables and an amp to try.

i have 30 year old Bose 301s that I was ready to get rid of. I thought i'd done every thing to get them to sound good. Bought a new marantz av amp, marantz DV9500 SACD player, Rotel power amp, $500 interconnects, and Audioquest type 4 speaker cable.

Having auditioned a pair of nice JBLs and Dynaudio focus 140s at home this week, I'd just about given up and was just going to live with my system. Tonight I changed from the audioquest type 4 speaker cables to the Chords. All I can say is what a revelation. I have a VERY different sound now. The result is better than buying a new pair of speakers or a new 200w rms rotel power amp,which I also brought home to try.

The chords have made such a significant improvement to the sound that I have to get used to the sound all over again.

Previously the sound was nice and open, great depth and stereo image, but the tone was not good. Instruments sound compressed and sounded much the same. It was really the tone that was driving me to buy new speakers, but when I bought new ones home to try, nothing really sounded good. They all had an imbalance somewhere. Now my Bose 301 series 1 sound so fresh and modern. Top end has smoothed right out to where the snares and cymbals just sound so natural and clear. Acoustic guitars are shining. Vocals are good but I'm hoping they will get better. From what I read in a few weeks the mids should start to shine. Even now they are still very good. Overall, the sound is so balanced, smooth, crisp but not harsh, just what I have been looking for but not knowing how to get it. I have also tried Anticables, which sounded very similar to the audioquest, with the audio quest having much more air and life to them. Recently I gave the dynaudio focus 140s a very bad rap, but maybe I will have to reconsider, as it seems that the audioquest cables were most likely the culprits causing a peak in high mids. The first time I tried them I wondered if they were a coloured sounding cable. From what I hear tonight, that is an understatement.

The chords have really given my system new life I really didn't expect to get. I am using the odyssy 4s. I"m hoping I can get away with the 2s as the 4s are $110 / metre in Australia. Not cheap.

Excellent clarity with good balance and extension. Alao unobtrusive if you are running them around white skirting boards. Fairly pliable/bendable.

So far I cannot come up with any.

I am lucky enough to be able to Bi Amp and Bi Wire, having changed from Van Den Hul Clearwater my Linn Amps positively sing through my Epos ES14's. Was the upgrade worth it? You bet it was. The extra extension at both ends, the clarity , dynamics and the seperation, I would have been prepared to pay a lot more to achieve the result. Would I recommend Chord Oddessey? I think I just have. Go and get them for yourself.

Perhaps a bit expensive,but then again look at the quality of materials,and the way its made.

When I upgraded my amplification to Chord electronics (different company to Chord Co cables) CPA2200 pre amp and SPM600 power amp,I was advised by the dealer to change interconnects and speaker cable,to get the best out of these superb amps. So when the amps came home with me,so did 6 metres of Oddysey biwire cable,I hooked them up to my B&W cdm7nt speakers,bearing in mind the amps & cable were new and not run in at all,the sound was a quantum leap away from my old system. After a few weeks it was noticeable that the system was settling down and "burning in".Now after 6 months,and a new Meridian 588 cd(see separate review)player nicely run in,the whole system sounds sublime with detail to die for,soundstaging,slam,attack,decay,etc all superb. The chunky white cables even look good to me,and when pushed upto the white skirting boards in my house,manage to disappear,almost as well as they disappear in my system,allowing the music to flow.

I visited the Hi-Fi Show at Heathrow last September and on a whim purchased 6 mtrs of Chord Odyssey 4 to replace the Van Dan Hull CS122 I had Been using for the last 6years. On first hooking the cable up to my Myriad MI120 Amp and Spendor S6 speakers, I was bitterly disapointed. The sound was very lean and top heavy. I left the cable in place and mainly used my TV playing through the system. After about 2-3 weeks the sound changed.The base became tight and very expressive, the Mid-Range was clear with female vocals being sweet and sibalance free,the top was a delight. For the first time I understood the words Soundstaging, Depth and Detail. Odyssey 4 is clearly a cable worth aspiring too and I am sorry I tried to judge this cable too soon. Burn in time is essential with this cable, if you havn`t the patience see if you can get your dealer to do it for you.

Purity of sound

Price when needed for anything other than straight wiring

Changed from Cabletalk 3.1 (legacy from an earlier system) to Chord Odyssey in a Linn Aktiv System. I have two power amplifiers and a wiring run of over 30 feet to the speakers, I had to buy 125 feet of cable. It is £17 per metre, and so I had to spend close on £700 just in cable.

Can this price be justified for a "simple" cable - probably not. However, if the materials are first class, and there is a value premium charged then possibly. Can one justify that amount of money? is it worth it? - a most definite yes. I too was sceptical on the benefits, but after borrowing some cables from my dealer, I was sold. More instruments in the mix - where did that oboe come from?

If you're wondering about upgrading, borrow some samples from your dealer and save hard.

I bought some Odyssey to single wire my system (maybe my wife'll let me buy some more soon) which is; Arcam Alpha 8SE cd, Arcam Alpha 8R amp and Tannoy P30 speakers.
The difference over the cable it replaced (Cable Talk 3.1 Bi-Wire) was vast and immediate. More depth, imaging, less colour and excellent detail. This cable is so good that when I try to change my interconnects (from Monster 400MkII to VdH The Second) I only hear a subtle difference, not the £200 I should do. My next buy will definately be another length of Odyssey so I can bi-wire.

Brilliant cable, if you can afford the £17 per metre.

I had been using Chord's Rumour 4 for the last two years and have been happly with the results that is untill my local dealer suggested I try Odyssey.
Wow! what a difference, HUGE!! everything was far more open and natural, drums and percussion now sound so realistic,my Linn speakers have now disappeared in to my living room with the soundstage just hanging in front of me..

I did audition other cables before making my final decision.
Kimber's expensive 8TC comes highly recomended and is a very popular product but, and I don't now why in my system it didn't sound right, for me Odyssey was the clear winner.

However Quality cables do not come cheap, at £17.00 per mtr things can get a little pricey especially if like me you need a bi-wire run, I had to spend almost £300 for a 3.5 mtr pair but it really is worth digging that little bit deeper.

To conclude, do not underestimate the importance of cable,interconnects or speaker, as Mr Russ Andrews always demonstrates start with the source and work out.

I will easily give 5 Stars for Value it really is that good!

This is a very transparent cable which can really open up a capable system. It is bright enough to transform dull sounding systems. A word of warning though I partnered this with a pair of celestions with metal dome tweeters and the result was aweful, screeching treble. Against competition like QED Profile Silver 12 it showed remarkable bass control and air in the treble. Highly recommended.
