I switched the amp on, after a few seconds maybe if "clickshat" to life as if to indicated its readiness to drive whatever is thrown at it. I popped in my 'Best Audiophile voices' and was apalled at the initial sound. I couldn't understand how this amp sounded so terrible. electrical repair

So this is Naims entry level separate huh? According to my estimation, pretty damn good! I know the guys with the 552's will turn there nose up at the 112, but lets get real here, this gems rang in at 1200us new you wankers! Besides it plays the tune Nigal, so I guess I'd be wasting my time talking audiovile trash here, how do you describe a component that just sounds right? I suppose you don't. Just go to a Naim dealer if you can and I promise you'll dig the vibe. cheers

wow i just bought the naim 112x and 150x plus the flapcap2x to match my proac d15,i feel the sound so sweet and the bass also ok for my 700 sq feet living room.Firstly,I was order the primare I30, but when i listen to the Naim system, I realize that the Naim system is more suit to me cause everytime i listen to the music i won's sleep anymore....HAHA

Draw you into the music, engangig!

Only din-inputs but when you hear this level of performance it is easy forgiven.

A great sounding amplifier. I use mine with a nap150 and still enjoy how the amps dig out the musical message. Powerful and enganging sounding and very good rythm/timing.

Very pleased with this unit. I have been away from Naim equipment for a while, having owned some of their top flight stuff (52, 135s etc). This unit really surprised me, as the new naim sound keeps all their old values but is definitly more musical. I must say I am using this with audio42 battery PSU which greatly improves the sound over the standard hicap and also replaces the NAPSC. It also powers my CD5. Overall this unit is great value and highly recommended.

Clean natural sound

This is by far the most exciting and involving preamp that I’ve listened to. Naim houses the power supply outside the pre-amplifier to avoid magnetic field problems. I think that this preamp is the best value in this price range. The sound produce by this product is so natural and smooth. My CDs sound as good as vinyl. I don’t even feel the need to move to SACD stereo. The improvement over my old preamp is so clear, even my girlfriend notices it. I’m not sure if Naim’s earthing and input connector have anything to do with this wonderful clean sound, but I’m sold on Naim. It does take a long time to burn in. I never believed in burn in before, but this preamp sounded awful for the first 40 hours. Once you reach 100 hours, you can’t beat the rhythm and timing produced with this product.

This preamp really did wonders for my system and for my enjoyment of music. I’m using the Flatcap II to power the NAC 112. Naim is really on to something with their timing and rhythm. Other manufactures can’t capture this and they don’t draw you into the music. I never realized how important a preamp was. The NAC 112 cleaned up everything that annoyed me in my system. Now I have a huge soundstage with detail and clarity. Vocals really sound natural (not that usual amplified sound). At $1,200 this is a real bargain and I recommend going with one of the Naim amps as well.

Wow, I can’t say enough good things about this preamp. Along with the Naim NAP 200 amp, my CDs now sound very close to vinyl quality. Adding the Flatcap II power supply really makes a difference and I recommend it. You can always add it later if you can’t afford it now. Before Naim was added to my system, horns would sound a little dry and somewhat harsh. Now they jump out of the speakers and sound very natural. My bass is tighter and cleaner. Male and female vocals sound so real it’s wonderful. Everything just sounds better and more alive. Naim really does involve you in the music. To me that’s the most important thing in this hobby. Just put in a CD and enjoy pure music that has no listener fatigue and that puts you into a dreamy listening state. The hardest thing for me is turning my system off at night. I’ve continued to shop around because I enjoy seeing what’s out there. However, I haven’t heard anything that puts me into that dreamy listening state like Naim. I’m still amazed at the number of $20,000 + systems that are set up in hi-fi stores that don’t do anything for me and leave me bored. The 'new' Naim sound

Tough to beat for the money.

Possesses the classic Naim rhythm and timing. Music is exciting as ever, with plenty of slam and weight and detail. Very articulate, without the harsh forwardness of the previous generation of Naim's entry-level gear (3-series).

Highly recommend the addition of an external power supply (such as the Flatcap2 or hicap). Ideally partnered with the Naim NAP150 power amplifier.

Good starter pre amp by Naim

No in built phono stage.

I have used this series 5 pre amp for a while now.
The result I think is great value for money and will no doubt get you loving the NAim sound.

It doesn't come with a phono stage so that will be extra, so if you've got a half decent Deck I would go for the NAC 102 which is better and comes with a phono stage.

A must is a Flatcap 2 to power it, indepandantly from the Power AMP NAP 150. They partner very well, and overall I have been very impressed with the sound quality.

However I would say that if you can get hold of either the 32.5 (brilliant 1980's Pre) or the 72 which is even better. Also these preamps also come with two phono inputs, which is great for me because I have two turntables. You should also have a Hi-Cap to power these little pre-amp's as it will greatly improve the sound.

Getting back to the NAC 112, if you like the series5 look and also are going to drive CD as your source then you wont get anything better for this price.
