from shipdog.com Summary: A true high-end sound card for the audiophile and music lover.
I bought this card to drive my M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 self-powered monitors. When used in combination with Audioquest Diamondback interconnect (RCA plugs), I found the sound to be detailed, extended at both top and bottom, very dynamic, sweet in the midrange, and very clean at the top end.
I wasn't planning on using my PC as a music system, but this card changed my mind. I get better definition and a less fatiquing sound than from my Pioneer Elite CD/DVD player. In fact, the sound has some of the qualities one looks for in a reference system. It is very detailed and snappy without having a forward or harsh treble. Bass is detailed and well-extended, but I'm using speakers that cut off the bottom, so I'm quoting others about the bottom end.
Sorry I can't comment on the recording/input quality, but I'm just a consumer, not a producer! Strengths: Neutral, quick, dynamic, extended frequency response, yet smooth. No significant noise or distortion issues.
Sound quality can't be beat for twice the price. Weaknesses: Others have commented on compatibility with some sound processing programs. Typically, complaints about noise or tics when recording are remedied by adjusting the latency time.
This is for 2 channel sound only. Those wanting similar quality for surround sound need to check out M-Audio's revolution series of cards (which don't sound quite as good but still better than the competition). Those wanting even better sound can check-out M-Audio's big brother Audiophile 192 for 3 times the price. Similar Products Used: Never had anything similar in my PC systems. Always used stock (motherboard) codec until now.
