Review NaN of , from Omaha, NE

Price Paid:  $150.00 from Compusa

Summary:
Extigy is a great idea. Having the sound card
as an external device with controls and an
array of I/O ports relieves a lot of hassles
involved with PCI sounds cards. I think the idea
is more of a killer than the product itself.
However, that does not mean that the product
is inferior. In fact, the Extigy's sound
card sounds a tad (a very wee little bit
though) better than the Turtlebeach Santa
Cruz PCI card that I have on the computer.

Pros: External/portable. Digital,
optical and analog line in/out ports.
Dolby NR/CMSS function, Dolby 5.1 output,
separate power source and power switch.
USB1.1

Cons: Software. Windows XP is hanging from
time to time since I started using the
sound card. However, this happens only
if I switch the Extigy device on/off while
the computer is still on. Standby mode is
hanging if the Extigy is left on.

All in all very nice product and a
flexible and economic solution to
many PC sound related issues.

Review NaN of , from Portland, OR

Price Paid:  $149.00 from Circuit City

Summary:
For those of you having difficulty with PCI cards in which you cannot assign IRQ's (as is the case with windows XP) this is the sound solution for you. I bought an Audigy and it sounded great, but it locked up when playing games or CD's. The Extigy solved all those problems and as a bonus for the extra price over the Audigy it has all the inputs contained in a small box that sits on my desktop. This has proven very helpful and I would never go back to an internal card. Set up is a breeze and there are absolutely no conflicts with the existing SB live card in my computer. The Extigy is really a great solution for IRQ problems that arise in windows XP. That is, soundcards should be assigned to IRQ 5, 10 or 11. If you can't get your Audigy card there buy the Extigy and save yourself some heartache.
