The Adcom's, regardless of their age, still seem to best the new receivers I have for music. The attack of the music is impressive...as it the queitness of the components. I am running the GFS 555 amp, the 565 Preamp and the GDA 700 DAC. All three pair nicely together. I wouldnt give up my GFA 555 for any receiver in the sub 1000USD range. sound and styling

A.M. interference doesn't seem to be handled as well as it should. Single button tuning for presets would be better than the toggle button

I've been listening to this radio for over a year and I'm quite satisfied. Even though this isn't a high end product it seems to be revealing the limitations of various stations. Consider that the only cheaper model I've seen is a Yamaha which got some mediocre reviews, and the NAD isn't a bad choice.

Prefect match with the NAD C370 as the amplifers remote worked well on the tuner; especially in controlling the stand-by mode.

AM reception relative weak compared to FM.

Purchsed the C420 in order to team up with the NAD C370 amplifer. Based on the price of just A$385 (US$203/GBP143), I didn''t have high expectations. How wrong I was. This tuner was able to lock onto weak Sydney FM stations with very good stereo reproduction by the tuner''s ''blend'' feature. Thus, reducing the ''hiss'' sound which is common in my area. The quality of sound in the FM band was excellent. Not as good as CD, but for some of the stations, not far off. This tuner would have to the bargain of the year and if you own a NAD- Link amplifer it is a must have.

Eye-pleasing, good reception, NAD quality

Stock reception is not top notch, but at this price range I was not expecting it.

I still don't understand why I am the first to review this tuner, b/c it is really a fine piece of work. NAD has done it again. They have offered a VERY reasonable price on a quality tuner for lower end systems. First off you should know if you are only spending $200-300 on a tuner you will NOT be getting CD like sound from it. At least from ALL of the tuners I have personally listened to in this price range. However, I popped a Magnum Dynalabs antenna on this baby and WOW! The audible range of the frequencies is much broader, with deeper bass and crisper, cleaner highs. I was amazed at what this little antenna did to an already great tuner. So if you are in the market for a tuner, NAD looks and quality in particular, and are on a somewhat tight budget I truly think you should give this little guy a try. The controls are a little confusing to get used to at first, but once you do it a few thousand times it is really easy :)

Go to your local shop and give the NAD components a listen, you will not be disappointed.

Oh and the antenna for those of you that are curious, it is the Magnum/Dynalab ST-2 FM. I picked mine up from AudioAdvisor for $89 shipped. Give it a try. If you don't like it, you can send it back no questions asked within 30 days. Mine is not going back.

Controls not very user friendly

The C420 is better than the tuner sections supplied in many receivers for audio quality and compares favorably for RF performance (getting/holding stations, quieting, etc.). It isn't going to blow away a high-end McIntosh tuner, but it performs very well at its intended price point. In the NAD tradition, audio quality won't disappoint. My gripe is the funky ergonomics--why not just include a good old fashioned tuning knob? Programming isn't very intuitive. Read the manual and program all your stations in before you forget how to do it :) A good value for the money.
