Strength:

I bought this deck brand new in 1997 and up to this day I still use it without even replacing the belts. The sound is superb for a 2-head deck. It sounds clear, but a little on the bright side, but very clean sound with the Digital filter on. I have multiple 3-head decks and to be honest, sometimes the 2-head pioneer sounds better and more lively. Now if you know about cassette decks and look at the specifications of this deck, you will realize how good it is, if you compare specifications to other high-end decks! The only set back of this deck is that it has plastic all over, which tends to break if you are not careful, but so far in 21 years my deck is like new amd sounding outstanding!!

Weakness:

Everything is plastic

Strength:

Digital filtering, features, convinience. Cheap.

Weakness:

No remote, no lighting of cassetewell, most plastic.

I love tapes for the convinience and relativily good sound and have ca. 200pcs. When i bought my stereo I replaced my faulty Pioneer CT6060 wich in classic style have good mechanics and a giant flywheel. The CT-W606DR does a fine jobb of cleaning up the sound on old tapes (+20 years old) and have nice features for optimizing of recording with BLE XD and Dolby B/C. Before this new tapedeck I used to sample songs to the PC and clean it up with Cool Edit and make AAC and MP3 of them but now they sound perfectly right in realtime!

Strength:

Worked fine till it died

Weakness:

Quit recording on one side.

Warning: Pioneer tape decks are neither durable nor reliable - I have 2 dead ones including CTW60RS similar to this. I wouldn''t buy another Pioneer product with moving parts.

Strength:

Clear sound, good features

Weakness:

Can be remote-controlled only with Pioneer receivers!!! Noisy operation.

I bought this tape deck because it had good features like the 20 bit D/A converter and all the nice features one would normally look for in a cassette player. Another factor being that I had bought a Pioneer PDF-1009 CD player so I thought I could use its remote control with the tape deck. To my disappointment, it turned out that the cassette player has a control-in wire which works with Pioneer receiver and is incompatible with Kenwood receiver so had to return it.

I'm using this product about 1 years. I think this is a good tape-deck. It's sound quality is very high. It has digital processing system with 20 bit A/D D/A converter. It has dolby B-C and HX pro. It's super auto ble xd system analyzing tape before recording and find best eq, bias etc. for this tape.

Strength:

Excellent dubbing capabilities, Frequency response, digital noise reduction.

Weakness:

Face plate lettering is very small for certain buttons.

I know cassette decks are on the wane with all the digital recorders out there, but having a dubbing deck still provides some conveniences. Never was a big fan of double decks becaause they usually do not have great specs, e.g. frequency response, etc. I usually used two single decks for dubbing. However, I was delighted to learn that the specs for this deck are equal to decks costing 5 times as much. Type 2 cassette freq. response is 30-19K! The digital noise reduction and the tape hiss playback reduction are wonderful. My dubbed cassettes sound like near cd quality!!

Overall, a great deck. I bought mine online at CDeals for $180. Plenty of features and great sound, how can you lose?

Strength:

The Pioneer has great sound and convenient features. Its controls are easy to operate. It is considerably less expensive than the Sony TC-WA7ESA.

Weakness:

The Pioneer has two motors instead of the Sony's four, and lacks Dolby S. However, its superior sound quality outweighs these differences.

I recently purchased both the Pioneer CT-W606DR and the Sony TC-WA7ESA with the plan of keeping the one I liked best. I expected the more expensive Sony would be the keeper, but to my surprise the Pioneer sounded much better, even with its digital features turned off. Kudos to Crutchfield for a liberal return policy. They will be getting back the Sony soon.

Strength:

Digital NR, Noise Suppresser, Signal to noise ratio 90 db, Freq. Response

Weakness:

Only one motor per well

The Pioneer CT-W606 DR is an outstanding dubbing cassette deck at it's price point. It's specs are comparable to decks costing 5 xs as much -literally. It features, digital noise reduction. A digital tape duplication noise system which allows to copy tape by reducing the noise. The result is a copy that is in some respects superior to the original. It has auto reverse(which I never use- the motors will last a lot longer). The signal to noise ratio (when digital NR, Dolby b or c on)90 db is outstsanding. The freq. response on type II tape 20-19000 Hz again outstanding. You have the option of playing back or recording in digital or analog. Overall an outstanding deck. The one drawback is the motor configuration-one per well. Really not ideal .
