Crown produced some of the most advanced tape decks produced at very reasonable prices considering their performance standards. This is 19" EIA rack mount model (all were) that easily handled small and NAB sized tape. Wonderful transport, very rugged, reliable and easy to service. Large response VU meters. The noise threshold was very low and frequency response with minimum variation...top end depending upon speed (mine is 3 3/4, 7 1/2 and 15 ips). I always found Crown decks superior to ReVox A77 and A700. My stores at that time also handled Scully decks (strictly studio) for larger format tape...but in 1/4" mode Crown was quite comparable. Wonderful equipment, my master tapes with single stereo Neumann mic sound as transparent, natural and as dynamic as the day they were made.
