Price Paid:  $89.00 from Apple Store

Summary:
Excellent for most home stereo applications. The sound is passable and not any better or worse than directly connecting your iPod to your stereo. This is a convenience product, and as such it does make it more convenient to use your iPod in conjunction with your home stereo. Just plug n play. Simple! The remote, though small, is easy to use. While the iPod does not sound as good as most CD players, it is a very convenient way to store and listen to music. This docking station just makes it all the more convenient. I still almost always prefer my CD player, but when I have a party and need a constant stream of background music, this can't be beat! Other nice nice touches are the S-Video port and USB port so that you can also hook the unit up to your computer and TV. (I have never used the video functions on the player so I cant comment on that aspect).

If you want convenience at a decent price this product is for you. Don't fall for the iPod Boom Box trap... use your own home audio system for the best sound!

I am waiting for a someone to build a similar product which would by-pass the iPod DAC and instead supply some upsampling with a better DAC... heck maybe even a Tube preamp section! Lets make the iPod really sing!

Strengths:
Easy to connect, decent build quality, S-Video Connector, Remote control feature allows control over the unit and your iPod and includes a port to allow you to attach the unit to your computer as well so you dont have to move your iPod around as much provided your computer and stereo are in proximal locations..

Weaknesses:
None - unless you want a nicer finish that complements the iPod better... but all things come at a price!

Similar Products Used:
None - but associated products are Denon AV10SE Amp, Martin Logan SL3 Speakers, Pioneer M90 Reference Amplifier, Acrotec Cables, Tara Lab Prism Bi-Wire speaker cables, B&W S3 LC6 and 604 speakers.

Marantz MA-9S2 Power AmplifierThe list above has one tenet that I continue to hold true: high powered amplifiers are necessary to reproduce the full dynamic range of music with most speakers. This became apparent when I changed from the 100 Watt per channel Bella Extreme 100 to the 250 Watt.....

Aune Mini Headphone DAC User Review

The unit arrived from China well packed and everything seem to be in place. No external abuse by the carriers. The only problem was the power supply it came with. The box came with a cheap step-down converter.
