Strength:

sound quality. as good as Denon DM30.

Weakness:

non, maybe the bass is a little bit weak, but enough for me at least.

I'd said it is well worth every penny I spent on it. Also the best bookshelf ysytem, especially considering the price. the sound is flawless(for such small speakers).

Strength:

Mid-range sound. Compact size. Easy to read display. Several inputs. Treble/bass/balance control.

Weakness:

No direct track access. No reverse time on counter display. Music search only from the front panel not the remote. Treble/bass/balance control is only available on the front panel.

This is an excellent system for a small room or apartment (around 600 sq. ft.). It will easily fill the area with clear, defined sound. Unlike some other reviewers I did not have a problem with the remote control or the lack of mid-range sound. My only concern is that the bass could be better, but it's adequate when you condsider that this is a small woofer.

I was looking for an unobtrusive cd/radio for my office, not one of the shelf systems that look like miniature pin ball machines with garish flashing lights and constructed mostly of plastic when I ran across this item on ubid.I read the reviews here and went to the teac site and placed a low bid in the wee hours of the AM.I also acquired the rtr 80 watt sub at the same time. This combination sits practically invisible on my bookshelf and is better than I had hoped for.Within the week,co-workers had purchased an additional 3 units[refurbished]Excellent unit

Strength:

Sweet sound + good looks + well-built = great value. You are paying for a quality product, not for a name.

Weakness:

The remote has tiny buttons, and you can''t tune or select CD tracks manually from it. Limited EQ. Where is this bass out jack everone''s talking about?! I personally paid a little too much, so for me it scores "only" 4 stars for value.

This is for the Reference 100, CRH-100. I did a lot of browsing and comparing to replace my old & crappy JVC box for my bedroom. I''m not an audiophile, but wanted a solid, good-sounding product in the $200-300 range. I spent weeks looking at stores and all over this site, comparing products and reading reviews. Just as I was about to resign myself to spending more for an over-priced Yamaha or Onkyo, I stumbled on the rave reviews for the TEAC Ref 100. Everyone spoke so highly of this unit I just went and bought it the next day. THANK YOU, EVERYONE. Your insights really helped, and the reviews for this sweet unit are on the money. It easily fills a large bedroom with great sound- at normal levels the high are crisp, the bass is solid, and it has wonderful separation. I like the sleek look and the solid, well-built feel; the buttons on the face are satisfying to use. It also has lots of nice extra features (I love the timer- now I can throw out my alarm clock, too). It''s truly hard to find major bad points to say about this unit, I''ll just present some minor quibbles. The remote could be more convenient to use. It has only a 2-band EQ, the bass gets muddy at higher volumes, and unless I am going stupid, my unit does NOT have a subwoofer line-out. Weird. I probably also paid too much, as I bought it online (and had to pay for shipping) rather than picking up a similar, cheaper, unit at Costco like most people did. But without a car or Costco membership, I just had to get my hands on this thing one way or another...

Strength:

Outstanding sound with this price, nice look

Weakness:

a little bit noisy and slow cd-changer

I bought this product few days ago. I'm studying aboard and still looking for a good mini system one. Fry's sold them as refurbished units just only $99 which is so cheap. when I look at it. I thought i was more than 2-300 dollars. The first impression is its sound. Just like a big system, the bass is very soft and wide. I wondered why such a small speaker like that can produce very smooth. The treble is also excellent. I can hear every detail of instruments much more than i've ever. It's also nice looking. The bad point maybe just only the cd-changer which is a little bit noisy and slow performing.
This is the most value money for audio system I've ever spent.

(Because it's a refurbished unit, firstly i got a bad unit which the remote control didn't work but after i changed it to a new one, it just like a new unit (don't have even a scratch) and every perform very well)

Strength:

Small size, alarm clock, sleep timer

Weakness:

Clunky CD magazine (3 CD changer), some skipping on damaged CDs

This system is very impressive for its size. It easily fills a small room with sound and if not overworked is warm and rich sounding with clear and expressive vocals. It works especially well with female vocalists. At higher volumes and especially if using the 'Rock' EQ setting, which boosts the bass frequencies by a few dB, the bass can start to sound 'bloomy' but the effect only kicks in at volumes way above comfortable listening levels. Overall the effect is of a much larger system and if you close your eyes you can imagine you're listening to a reasonable full size system.

It's easy to set up and program the various timer functions and tuner pre-sets and as a bedroom system it is ideal. My remote works perfectly from all distances, even outside the room, unlike the previous reviewer. The Reference 130 has a 3CD changer and changes are clunky and slow, but you can eject and replace CDs while one is playing. Slight scratches seem to cause skips on the Teac while they don't on my Rotel full size player.

Build quality is very good although I am not a big fan of a shiny veneer finish on speakers.

Overall this system is definitely better than the flashy plastic systems on offer at most big box retailers and offers a 'real' hi-fi experience in a micro system sized package. In Canada it cost a little more than the Sonys and JVCs of the world, but it's worth it. Recommended as a second system in audiophile housholds or for an apartment dweller who doesn't want to compromise. As always though, audition before you buy as it's a matter of taste.

Strength:

Sound Quality, Lots of features

Weakness:

None

This unit is well made and performs wonderfully. For the money you cannot beat the quality. This little stereo setup makes for wonderful background music but you also find yourself tapping your feet to the music. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a second system or someone that lives in an apartment.

Strength:

Small size, Sound quality, easy programing and of coarse the one thing I have to have on any speakers are removable grill pannels that cover the speakers, which of coarse it has.

Weakness:

Short speaker cables and have to point remote right at it.

The best thing about this unit is that it has a pretty high quality sound even at high Decibles, it is pretty amazing! The unit is pretty compact (dimentions {WxHxD}175x115x325 mm for the main unit and the speakers are 115x175x195 mm) but pumpes quite a bit of power for it's size. There is only enough room for two speakers and the speaker cables are not that long. You have to point the remote right at the system to get a response and to view the time the unit has to be powered off. It would be great for anyone who listens to music for entertainment and not just for background music because you wouldn't notice the quality as well. Also for people on a budget but want great sound and for people living in smaller living quarters. This unit is very nice looking and I am very proud to have it!

Strength:

build quality, price, sound, design

Weakness:

almost none. may be 20W/channel is not enough

After reading the reviews from this site, I decided to get one for Christmas. Comparing the mini's from Alwa, JVC and Sony of the same price range. I'll say TEAC is the best in build quality and sound. The speaker is built with piano wood. I'll say the build quality is better than my Bose 201 and much better than those cheezy speakers from other minis. The sound quality is very good but not enough bass. I put in my favorite Santana CD in. I can hear more instructments sounds than my old system. Some reviewers say the remote control didn't work well but I don't see this problem on my system. The remote control work perfect fine for me.

Overall, I am happy with the purchase. I'll say the Yamaha MCR-E100 sound better but it's also twice as expensive.
