This is the best audio system We ever owned. We have a component that would only one tape and one CD, but this system would take 51 CD plus 2 cassette tape slots. It also has radio tuner if you like to listen to a radio. The sound is amazingly good. And with all 5 speakers and long wires you can easily spread them out and have your music in different location of your house if you like. This unit comes with a remote control and CD names can be programmed to the unit so you can just be sitting on your sofa and use the remote to pick a CD to play. I Highly Recommend this product.

The only bad part for me is when I loan my system to a friend for our party they lost my manual. Would have been great if I can get the manual somewhere because I am sure there are still a lot of features this unit offers that I have not learned. At this time I am wondering if I can connect a laptop on this unit so I can use it's speakers and play songs from laptop without burning them into CD.

Strength:

Unfortunately mine is missing the face place for the cassettes, but are still usable. Sounds great--250watts Has CD Text to tell you what song you are listening to!!

Weakness:

Haven't found any problems yet and i have had it for over 1 year!!!

This is THE BEST system i have, the MHC-F250AV is amazing audio quality, for my needs any ways, if you can still find one or are offered one, take it and grab the deal ASAP. If you get this system, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Optimus Pro-SW200P, but get another sub for it, if ur a cheapo, like me go to walmart to get the sub. The Mini System (MHC-F250AV) holds 51 CD's and handles 250 watts. It is THE BEST system i currently own and THE BEST i have ever owned!!! The sub sounds remarkable, even though from walmart....lol A family friend has a $10,000 theatre in his house and he says that my sub sounds a lot better than his!!

Customer Service

Never had a problem. and i got it for FREE!!!!!

Strength:

sound ...features(all of them) speaker system setup remote control! nice look! sturdy---still is kicking after 4 years!

Weakness:

tape doors!---that is it!

Well, it is funny when this stereo arrived at my home. The first thing the UPS guy said to me was" this system is for you!!!!---This thing kicks..I have one too, you are going to enjoy this--woo-wee!" I quickly opened it. I think it is human nature for people to always find something wrong. We always want everything for less money. I was reading the reviews. You are not going to get a BOSE like system with all the trimmings for $399. C'mon folks! This system is exceptional. The thing you have to do as a stereo owner is find out where the best acoustics are in your particualar home. Speakers sound better when spread out. The best thing to do with this system is spread the speakers apart and you will get the best sound ever! Trust me at 100 Watts per channel, you can't get any better than that! Buy this stereo, if you can still find it on the market!!!!!!!!

Strength:

Good sound quality
Excellent tuner
ins-outs galore
superb compatability
51 cd changer
cd text
5 speakers

Weakness:

Clumbsy tape door latches

Excellent overall stereo with lots of options. I reccomend adding a Sony SA-W305 6 1/2" subwoofer to get more punch. Only downside is some peculiar detail decisions made by sony

Strength:

Different listening selections for Surround Sound/DSP
50+1 CD Changer with CD labeler
CD to Tape Dubbing Quality HIGH

Weakness:

Sometimes it spins too fast & you have to back track to find the CD you are looking for!
The door latch is sort of flimsy. However, I did purchase a merchandise agreement that fixes the defects.

I am very please with this CD player. Currently debating on whether or not it is practical for my dorm room. I also read another buyers negative comments on the surround sound. However, I am very pleased with the quality for the price! I'd DEFINATELY recommend this CD player to anyone.

an Audiophile

The MHC-F250AV is a very good all around inexpensive package. It is biased toward the home-theater crowd, not the audiophile crowd however. If music quality is important to you, you are much better off with an LBT-790 or 990. These are biased toward the audiophile, and provide excellent music quality. Since they lack a center channel and Pro-Logic, they do not provide very good movie sound seperation and reproduction. Built in super-woofers provide very accurate (not exceptionally booming or intruisive) bass reproduction. Okay, the 250 does come with a 50 disc CD changer as well as dual tape players and a good tuner. The CD's can be named, which is helpful for quick identification and for your friends, and you can program enough selections to last you through a small party.
I couldn't recommend it for anything larger than a large bedroom or small living room. It also needs to have a subwoofer (the Sony 6 1/2" works well) to really produce any bass.
If you are using this primarily to watch TV and movies in your room or small apartment, you will not find a better system. Anything more would be excessive and unnecessary. The seperation and reproduction are excellent for this use. Music sounds okay. Not really the kind of quality you would really hope for, but not really lacking unless you are trying to use it to power a party or trying to listen to it throughout your house. Sound is comparable to $250-$300 units that are music-only.
5 star for the Pro Logic. 3 star for the music.

Strength:

CD storage, Optical output, Many DSP modes and of course, Dolby ProLogic surround sound.

Weakness:

Only one Aux Input, surround isn't evenly distributed throughout room.

If you're looking for something not quite super duper, high quality booming home theatre, and not quite 2 Channel 3CD changer, what you want is the MHC-F250AV. I've had it for years and it's been very reliable and satisfying. If you're into minidiscs, this stereo is Ideal for playback and recording. Listening to TV, VHS and DVD on with surround sound is no sweat. The cool little DJ effects add a nice attitude to CD playback. Sony has once again met the consumers every need and packaged it up into a convenient, yet high quality surround system.

Needs more Thump! i.e. A subwoofer is highly recommended

I've used this system for about 2 years now and I've had absolutely no problem... except for the irritating tape door latch that can be a little akward to close. Argueably the best Mini Audio system you can buy (Cost was $499.95 in 1998). If you are looking for a reasonably priced High Quality system...this is it. Excellent for the Audio enthusiast.
