I see everyone has the same problem that I had. This is easily fixed. If you take the top piece off, you find that this CD player is a major dust magnet. Take the four screws off of the cover, dip a Q-tip in Rubbing Alcohol and clean the tiny lens. I did this to mine and not it works great again.

Sound quality is awesome...VHS sounds as good as DVD.

The cd player sucks!! It's completely useless!

I bought this system 3 years ago, and up until a couple months ago, it worked flawlessly. Then the cd player started to go...first stopped playing CD-Rs, now it won't recognize any cd in the tray. Everything else works great & the surround sound is awesome. So I'm torn as to whether I should have it fixed or buy a new system. I'm so mad that this didn't happen while it was under warranty!! I bought a Sony because they're supposed to be good. Sounds like the whole batch is bad. :-(

CD syatem is total rubbish. It does not read CDs even though it has 3 in the tray. This is my second unit to replace my first faulty unit and exactly the same problems.
Do not wate your money on this unit.

This a waste of money. The non reading of CDs must be a common problem as I have had two that were not working with the same fault.

I had previously a Pioneer system with turntable, tuner, 5 cd cartridhe and twin deck. I had this for approx 8 years and had one problem with the CD motor which I accepted as wear and tear. This Sony unit I have had for 5 months and I have had 2 faulty units.

Multi "Functional" System, good surround sound for those on a budget, and nice speakers.

CD-Player is troublesome.

The setup is pretty good if you're on a budget. Provides good surround sound experience. Tape recording feature is kind of nifty.

However, I'm not as irate as the other reviewer, but yes, the cd-player problem is affecting me too. Glad to know I'm not the only one. It kind of sucks having this great setup mired by such an annoying problem. Having it taken in tonight, and the store people say they can fix it.
