Strength:

Great Sound nice speakers with decent bass (I am 15 and my parents yell @ me all the time this bass won't shake your room but is perfect for most kids or people who dont need to create and earthquake has outs for a sub, and inputs lik a md/vcr/dvd and i am thinking of adding on a subwoofer but i think i will leave that for my car but that is next year) great options 3 ch.

Weakness:

not balanced to the bottom (in music there is a certain way things are susposed to go bass is the loudest then mid range is middle of the road then highs are softer) this does fine with every thing ecept the bass is almost softer than the mids. tape deck is horrindously loud when changing dir. and ff. and rw they should have used the dark blueish/purple color instead of light blue on the display like panasonic o well i looks awesome any way

, as good or BETTER than any aiwa, sony or JVC the only one i have seen in this price range that is better is the Kenwood XD-A81 this system is nice it is by far the best value, size, cost and built perfect got all the out and in puts you need perfect for any teenager or adult it is load and there is no distortion perfect mid. and highs bass is kind of built into the mid. lowest is 40hz highest 14khz i think the high was right any wayget this system it is a better size and cost than the A81 + a cube "sub" will have better sound than the A81 and better balance any way This mini sys. rocks

Strength:

Well built speakers
Clean and clear mids and highs
Great recording features
Executive looking, not cheezy plastic

Weakness:

Bass is lean, but clean
Disk changer is a bit noisy when swapping disks

I just bought this unit last night. I extensively researched the various brands and models and bought this unit based on the fact that, although it did't have the best bass sound of all the units I've tested out, the speakers are very well built and reproduce the highs and mids perfectly. The woofers are an injection molded composite with rubber surrounds. There an out port for adding a sub which I intend to do to round out the sound. There are some great recording features I discovered AFTER I bought the unit which makes it even better. You can program in a mix of songs from all 3 cds and dump to tape. If you want to make tape mixes, you will no longer have to sit there all day and dub one song at a time! It's got tons of EQ presets and lets you cusomize 3 of your own. The 2 jog dials are great too.

Strength:

Good natrual hi and mid. Good price. Funcy display.

Weakness:

No bass. Taped from CD seems not loud enough.

I got it (actually last year's model XD-A5 with 70watts/channel) at Circuit City for $219. It is a good deal. I like this baby's sound though more bass would be better. CD playing and radio are great. Cassette unit is good too with Dolby B on.

Strength:

Clear sound, fairly easy to use, has the ability to play very loud, excellent price (I think it was $399 at Circuit city when I bought it, but is probably a little lower these days), 3-CD changer, lots of cool flashing lights which can be subdued if irrating to some, you can dub tapes, free remote included, good radio reception and clarity

Weakness:

Tapes make lots of noise when you try and make them stop and play, CD-changer a bit loud too, no AM radio antenna included, not much bass(which could be good thing to some), not an ideal CD player for those people who like hard-core thumping of bass kind-of-music(but it's still pretty good for that too).

I went store hopping on a rainy day for 8 hours looking for the perfect Mini-system, and ended up getting this Kenwood. Though Kenwood isn't a household name, the CD performs better then most of the other CD-players I tried at a similar price.
I've now it for 3 or 4 months, and I've learned this system boasts all the features advertised and more. I must say I'm truly satisfied.

An Awia CD player that looks the same but I don't know the product number.

Strength:

260 WATTS (MY model is 100 RMS/ channel) Great clear music. 3 Disc CD changer. When CD is played with accoustic guitar, you cannot help but feel enveloped in the music, especially with the 3DSP. Nice lean bass. The display is awesome compared to the flimsy ones with Panasonic, Sony, Aiwa, and JVC. Well defined and clean display with blue, white, and red colors. Three display modes. When the "demo" for this system was turner on, a display parade would be shown with the name "KENWOOD" running across the screen(WOW). Texts on the screen is clear and easily read. Allot of functions. Allot of features that you will not get for the price same price range. Speaker box well built. Unit itself is sturdy and looks really great (a silver/aluminum frame with blue accents) The picture on the box and on the internet does no justice to show exactly how gorgeous this system really is. Kenwood system on a whole is a pleasure to use, and it comes with a remote control. plays very loud at only half its volume range with out distortion. In short, the Kenwood XD-A53 is a give away at such a low price. Their customer service is great. Ceck it out at crutchfield.com

Weakness:

Cassette decks and CD Changer makes noise when either changing a cd or cassette. I been having problems finding a correct antenna to replace the temporary one that came with the system. (oh, mine came with the AM antenna) I recently contacted Kenwood USA via their web site about it, and they have sent me the correct Antenna. It only took 2 days for them to respond (not really a weakness but important to take note of)THe bass kind of lacks a certain punch, but is sufficent considering the size of the system.

A great allrounded system on the whole. Worth every cent paid for it. More features, better sound quality, ease of use, and the overall beauty of this system, will tell you that it is worth it. Kenwood really out done them selves this time. A definite buy...

Similar Products Used:

the Aiwa mini theatre system with the 40 Watt powered subwoofer. the sub is great, but the other two main speakers
really suck. the display was not too good either.
