Strength:

Good sound, small size

Weakness:

Reliabilty and warranty service both bad - had to pay local dealer for them to send to Denon for repair as they declined to perform warranty service on it. Unit was actually dead when I got it, and failed again after being repaired.

High quality sound in a small package - although kind of deep because of power supply sticking out. Poor reliability and warranty service - local dealer would not service under warranty and sent to Denon - twice -for repairs. Don't get the reliability and service you would expect from Denon - will affect my purchase of any future Denon product.

Strength:

Good sound quality, although speakers could be a bit better.

Weakness:

Poor reliability and warranty service. Complex remote.

I purchased this because of its small size, the mission speakers and Denon's reputation for quality products. Unfortunately, I have had severe reliabity problems with the unit, although I have been happy with the sound quality. I have had to have it serviced twice under warranty related to problems with the CD player (drawer would not open or close). The remote is confusing.

Strength:

Small size, lots of features. Very good sound for the money.

Weakness:

Remote looks a bit cheap. Can't bi-wire amp. Prefer 'proper' tone controls.

I too compared it to the Yamaha and found it way better - less harsh and kept it's clarity when cranked up. On paper the Yamaha is good, I think having the Mission speakers on the Denon helped it though. I'm currently playing it through Kef Cresta 2's as opposed to the optional Missions.

Strength:

Powerful, clear sounding, Denon quality

Weakness:

Remote control is a bit confusing

I bought the Denon UD-M50 in hopes of finding a compact yet powerful mini-system. This systems fulfills all of what I was looking for. Combined with the power and quality of the Denon amp and the clear, clean sound of the Mission speakers you can't ask for more in a system. If you are interested in a bit more bass, and if it's within your budget, hook up a powered subwoofer. All in all a great system.

Strength:

Great Sound Gold Buttons 1 year warranty

Weakness:

A JVC actually put up good competition against it. Maybe that's saying something FOR JVC and not against Denon. This thing is insanely heavy, especially for something so small.

I just bought this mini stereo to put in my dance room. I bought it at Ultimate Electronics, which was having their grand opening, so I got 10% off. I did have a lot of trouble getting helped, and I after buying the stereo, I wanted to buy some Sennheiser Wireless Headphones as well, but couldn't find anyone to sell them to me! Anyways, I listened to it in the store, and it sounded really good, way better than the high end Yamaha next to it. The JVC with the cylindrical speakers was a good contender though, with it's seperate subwoofer. Anyways, the Denon sounds great, better than an Onkyo I looked at, with more or less the same styling. The box is in the back of my truck right now, it says that it weighs 12kg. I'm not familiar with the metric system, but the guy who brought it to my truck was huge, and he had to use a dolly, so I figure 12kg is at least 500 pounds. I'm having a couple friends over tommorow to try to put it in the bedroom, but I'm not sure if the table I have for it will support that much weight.
