Strength:

clear sound reproduction,digital out,deep bass,high power,aesthetically pleasing,solid build quality,easy to use remote

Weakness:

CD tray is a little clunky and noisy when it opens-not a smooth mechanism

what are you people on?!for the price you pay, this is a brilliant system, and knocks everything for six in the same price bracket -the power is incredible, the sound is crystal clear, and the bass is deep-all you bass nuts-you dont need bass thats gonna shake your insides around and make you mad-if its got a good range, doesn't intefere with the mid range and provides depth to the music its fine-and anyway-i've recently hooked up the system to my PS2,and this hifi produces the best quality sound for 2-channel set up for DVD playback..no bass?..yeah right..explosions sound real, the music never gets muffled or interuppted with other hifi's,and for videogames its brilliant-And with the huge siver bass cones and the wood encased speakers, this unit craps on the crappy lightweight plastic tacky units for the same value in terms of appearance-this system is a true bargain, and aiwa do mean quality for price afterall- they are part of the sony corporation

Strength:

great clean sound, full function remote, can change the 2 CDs while one is playing, subwoofer output, easy to hook up

Weakness:

weak weak weak bass

A guy working at Circuit City said that this system had a lot of bass and i trusted him so i bought it. No. It does NOT have lots of bass.. and being a teen that listens to hella rap, i was very disappointed in that. BUT, the clear sounds from the speakers were great. It would work a lot better with surround sound speakers too. I bought a 40 dollar bassbite sub, and now my room has excellent sound. The remote is great... it''s completely full function. I do reccommend this system... but buy a powered sub with it!

I recently bought the system, and have been pleased. For the price (I paid $150) nothing compares. Most systems in that range have none of the features of this one. The full-featured remote is handy, especially the ability to control the tape decks. Most in the range can't do that. I like the ability to play one CD while changing the others.
The sound quality is high. I was shopping around for a system under $200, and most of them were ok. This one kind of jumped out at me, especially because it was a whole lot cheaper than systems with comparable features and quality.
I have heard stories about poor cd playback, etc, but I have not had any problems so far. I have one cd that is totally screwed, but the system doesn't choke. It plays CD-R's just fine, and I haven't tried RW's.
I do wish that the equalizer did more than three presets, and the autoreverse only works on one tape deck.
Overall, I think it is well worth the cost. If I wasn't a college student, I would get soemthing bigger and better, but is is affordable and packs a punch and clarity that most in the price range don't have.

Strength:

Awesome sound- Great bass and great mids and highs. plenty of power to fill a mid sized room. Great price 4 what U get (189.99)

Weakness:

i experienced a little skipping on my CREED cd that had a scratch in it. but other than that none significant.

I bought this stereo when my component system was burned out. I never expected a mini system to replace my component system (boy was I wrong) setting it up was a breeze and the thing sonds AWESOME!!! i thought at first that the subwoofers were a gimmik but i was wrong they produce beautiful full bass along with the clear mids and highs of the main speakers. i have experienced some slight skippping problems but after cleaning the CD the skipping went away. overall this is a great buy if you dont have tons of money to shell out on a super-expensive system. I would highly reccommend this and would have easily traded in my $400 component system for this awesome minisystem.

Strength:

Cheap. But you get what you pay for.

Weakness:

Bass? What bass?

After reading all these reviews I felt I had to write something about this system. I am a casual listener, by no mean an 'audio freak', but I can at least distinguish a decent system from a really bad one. Despite my low standards, the Aiwa NSX-A555 came as a big disapointment. I play it in a fairly large living room, and just like some said, the system delivers a lot of power for a small price.
However, keep in mind that you won't throw parties with it either.

The sound is hollow, the bass is weak, very very weak actually. I have a wide range of tastes and play everything from Radiohead to Classical, as well as hardcore Rap and metal. The system rated ok with my radiohead 'amnesiac' album , as long as I stayed in front of the system and didn't turn it too loud. Classical music sounded really bad - don't even think about it. Rap was really weak, the bass (if any) hits you in the head, not the stomach.

Overall, the whole things sounds like an overpowered radio. That's the best way I can describe it.

When it comes to look, the system looks like a toy. Big cheap-o plastic buttons, video game like display, only three silly sounds settings (classical/pop/rock), and a 't-bass button' that does close to nothing. It flashes, it flashes some more, and when you turn it off, it flashes. It definetely has a 'teen' feel to it.

I would recommend that system for people who don't really care for good sound, but feel the need for more power than a standart radio or micro system. It would in fact, be a fantastic gift for kids or teenagers. They can play it loud, it flashes, it's 'cool'. But the person even remotly interested in sounds quality is much better off avoiding the Aiwa NSX-A555.

Good bass,Looks cool,Cheap,Has clock,Holds 3cd's.

Weakness:

Skips on dirty, worn, old, and just made cdr's!

I bought this system in july of 99.It has been working good ever since. It's bass is very good for a system this cheap. It sounds like a Bose systems (i owned 2 i should know). If you like good bass that's deep not boomy this is a great system. The other wannabee audiophiles whom posted bad things and misspelled are total a$$holes! You can tell a lier when you see em.They always missspell.Anyway,i compared this one against my Boka speakers,Bose,Sony, and Polk a audiophiles speakers. And there is little differeance in the bass.To get the bass right sit these speakers on the floor near a wall, but not in a corner! The systems does skip on a few cd's.Cdr's,damaged cd's,dirty cd's,ect. It's good to clean the cd before playing it(you should know this already people). And to the person whom said it was "cheap plastic", isn't all things electronic made of cheap plastic?
Hello!

This system really kicks some major a$$ man. I got mine for freakin 175.00 and it fits my budget perfectly. I hope everyone can get a chance to get one of these cuz it's perfect for the college goer cuz it cheaper than most systems but outperforms a great number of them. Good luck audio enthusiasts.

I previously posted a 5 star rating. This system was great until I tried to plug in the AIWA surround speakers. Then all hell broke loose. The surrounds work for approxamatly 3 minutes and then die. Any speaker hooked to the surround output behaved this way. The surround speakers I bought from AIWA also had some internal problems and one would occasionally die if plugged into a real receiver. I still think this is a great system for the money, just dont try and use surround speakers. It doesnt have enough power in the high freq amp to drive mains and surrounds.
