This baby rocks pretty good. For $650 it better though. I was impressed with it. The first day i had it, I already had the neighbours come over and ask to turn it down. I am moving into a house soon thank god. Imagine this boomer in a townhouse. Now I get to really crank this baby. It has a digital scale for volume and I can''t remember what exact number it goes up to, but the highest I went so far is about 30-33 which shakes the house. I had it positioned in the basement surrounded by concrete walls which really put out the bass. If you can pick up this machine for around 400 cnd now do so.

I just got this system two days ago, and it is definitely the best sounding mini of the many i checked out- which was a lot of them. I have a nice component system but wanted a second which I could move around. I can't really find or hear any real weakness in this system yet- if you don't like bass don't bother with this system. I also heard that they are discontiuing this model so hurry up and grab one if you can. All of the reviews of this system are totally accurate.There isn't anything else to say about this system- it is definitely all that it is cracked up to be! It is a solid five!

Follow up- I haven't had any problems at all with this system. Surround speakers definitely help with the quality of sound it puts out, though to really get the effects of them you have to turn the volume up. Once again if you are looking for a mini system do not bother looking around this is it, unless you want to spend a lot of money. And if you have the money don't waste your time looking for a mini just go buy yourself a component system. If you are looking for a home theatre in a mini system don't fool yourself-go to the movies! But this system is fine for small areas, as I have it hooked up with me DVD.

This might sounds olds, but the bass. Thundering bass, bass you can hear upstairs if you playing downstairs.

Not much control on the cd player on the main unit itself, all control for the CD is on the remote.

This system for people who like they music loud and thundering. Imagine 400 watts on a such a small unit. Incredible. Kenwood kicks ass. Looks who trying to copy this unit raw power --- JVC. They got a unit with 400 watts too now. I saw one at Sears.

band pass may make a little noise but thats only with extreme bass but the bass covers the sound of the speakers breathing (w/ surround i only hear minor crackling on 1 song out of 15 - 20 cd's that i have listened to) I have tried 3 sets of surround and it does it on all of them but its minor

(w/ sorrund )surrounds tottaly improve the sound not that it needs it at all but you gotta hook up surround speakers if you want phat effects
especially if you like rap or tecno for example just listen to prodidgy fire starter or outkast rosa parks once youll nevver want to hear just stereo sound again
if you hook up surrounds make sure you get speakers that can handle 20 - 30 watts rms and 6 - 16 ohms(important)

the sound quality is unmatched by anything i've ever heard!; i like how you can put the subs facing the wall and still hvae the main speakers pointing toward you (due to the fact that the subs are on the sides, not the front)

To be totally honest with you I do not own this system YET but I had my good friend bring it to my house for the Millenium. The Bass on this thing is the absolute best. You don't even need to bother with add on sub-woofers. There is hardly any distortion if any at all. It works very well and for the price you cannot beat it at all. Well I hope this makes you wanna buy this system because it rules!!!!

The jvc is trying to compete but not there yet

I spoke too soon! I think it might have been my system but I started to have some major problems with this system. About half of the cds i played came out sounding fuzzy, the mids definitely were tweeked, at higher volumes i couldn't even hear most of the music as it all started to just sound like a thump, i guess that is what you get with having 100 watt subs built onto the speaker. there were more problems but i think you get my point. i am hoping it was just mine that was defective. anyway i returned it and went out and got the kenwood allura nv-500 which is leagues better than this model. you can add a sub-woofer on later with this system which in any case makes music have a much rounder and crispy sound.well in my opinion anyone who has this system xda 81 should return it and get the nv-500 which you can find for around the same price. i guess i was just expecting too much from a mass produced-featured pact mini. rule of thumb, the more stuff a mini system has for a low price, it is definitely sacrificing something which is usually proformance and sound quality. if you need to know more email me
