Strength:

Small

Weakness:

Noise

It was working fine during one year. I did not use it pretty often. Then one day it stoped respond on the middle of the song. I don't think that brand prodact should work like this. Think twice before you buy it!!!

Strength:

Sound is at a decent tone, tape playback has no hiss and still has the highs. The material of the base speakers at this size since with paper cone and foam they both Will rote. The high frequencies don't scratch at a Very loud state. Has a remote but, what else am I supposed to say? Ok on to the next.

Weakness:

Well this might be longer than the top. First, with the watage it is cappable of producing, these speakers can not handle it. They distort IF you turn the base up. I wounder how bad they would sound if they were made of paper since the material they are made of allows them to be played louder without distorting. This is a Major flaw, no outputs for extra devices just 1 output and it works Only with the cd and tape so if you want to connect a cheap amp for a sub just to hear movies or pc stuff you couldn't. I don't like the motor of the door because if you ever had it rise on something it will just break since its made of plastic. Well I think that's not too much, don't you?

Honestly for the price it is really good. To me this 240$ unit is just as good as the more expencive units with the exception of its outputs and limit for its base at higher levels than normal.

The Yamaha that goes for 500$ at Circuit city is good with seperate componets and has just a slightly better quality sound than this unit but, for that price its not worth it since it's not a dramatical diffrence than what this JVC has to offer. The Yamaha had the fancy piano black finnish and all but, come one that is not what I am looking for I want sound image and quality and for a 250$ diffrence I would stay with this one. I do say that I like the seperate components alot better than this all in one system.

The Onkyo that goes for 450$ is very very nice with its highs but, not its lows and if you have to add a sub than that just wont work for me. Don't get me wrong I do like Base and all kinds of it at that and even the car base which is not good base with home audio. If you have to add a sub to make a speaker get base then you will have to lower the highes of the speaker to let it play louder. I dont like just directional high frequencies, I must have directional highs and lows for each speaker and if the speaker cant handle the wattage than its a cheap speaker. A sub is just to widden the sound but, to me its not intended to fill in the place of the base speakers in the box that cant handle the wattage. That's what alot of mini systems need (a sub) just to give a wider image.

For what this unit is intended to do I would stay with it since its a bookshelf unit. If you really want to get fancy with sound and you must have the best sound than a bookself system isn't the answer. What you should do is use a good digital recever to light up the room you want since it has alot more wattage than shelf systems and get good speakers. The price might be equal or less deppending on how you choose but, you can use it for just a tape or cd and not have to pay extra for a bookshelf that you must get a cd or whatever included when you only have 1 purpose for it.

I'm using this unit for computer games and the sort since my pc is in one room and my Yamaha recever is in another. I would connect my pc to my yamaha upthrough the attic just to get optimal sound for games but, since my Yamaha is back in 94 it only accepts rca inputs and the longer the rca has to go to get to where it needs to go it looses signal by a tear or bend in the wire. It's not like that with Fiber optics as long as you have a Thick fiber cable that you can use brutal force with or else you will loose signal with that too and you also have to keep it in somewhat of a straight line.

I was thinking of headphones instead of a bookshelf for the most acurate sound but, with headphones it may hurt after a while wearing the things on your head for a long period of time and the sound of headphones is Very precise But, the image of a hall, concert or any wide image is terreble since it has to be simulated to give that sound through a small speaker which is next to your ear. So a bookshelf system is the best option in my case and this system is thee best for what I want. Since I am using it only for my pc audio I have to use the line out for the Jvc and I have a headphone out on the pc so I can connect an amp to power a sub to widden the sound of the pc audio. Too bad the Jvc didn't come with a simple mono output for me to at least work with but, that's what you get for the price.

I would recomend this unit only for its purpose and thats it. I would even recomend it over the more expencive systems even the denon or the Onkyo just because of its price and near quality and really it's not that much of a dramatical diffrence as the more expencive makers.

I give it a 4 only because of it's lack of outputs and the main reason is that you can's use the aux out for signal from the audio in source which you cant use together with this system. If it had a sub out then I would give it a 5 but, it has nada. I damn JVC to mini system Hell.

Oh and I am sorry about my spelling since my pc bogs if I run a spell checker. It's only a p60.

Strength:

Cool looking, front-loading CD player, small size, easy-to-use, affordable.

Weakness:

Limited deep bass

I specifically bought this unit to put on a den bookshelf. I like the way the unit sounds and works. In the small den where I placed it, it sounds great. Although I cited it as having limited deep bass, it actually has pretty good bass for its size. It's great for casual listening and doesn't take up a lot of room. It also looks pretty cool as well. I particularly like the motorized CD front cover...very slick! In its price class, I feel it outperforms any other brand. In looks there's really no competition!

Strength:

Extremly cool look, the tray ligths when the door closes. Disk tray can be locked. Lots of functionalities.

Weakness:

Noisy amplifier. For my taste the blue color of the fabric covering the loudspeakers is really ugly.

Soon after I bought it I noticed that my unit had a malfunction. After playing CDs for a while it began having problems at tracking the next song. Unfortunately this happened in a random way, so it was difficult for the technicians to detect the problem and fix it. They ended up changing the whole laser pickup section. I have'n had any problems since then.

The only thing I can complain about it is an annoying noise its output amplifier produces. I had the FSV5 before and even though this unit had loudspeakers with only a full- range speaker, its sound was cleaner and more pleasant than the FSV30. I couldn't bear the FSV30's hissing sound so I plugged its pre output to my Onkyo amplifier and believe me, what a difference! Anyways, for the money this small system has lots of functionalities.

Strength:

Slick Design. Neon blue light lits everything up in the dark...very cool. Usable remote.

Weakness:

Average Sound. Very weak on low volume.

I bought it just because of its looks. The wooden speaker matches my desk perfectly and the system looks not-so-cheap. It's very cool when the blue light reflects on the CD while it's spinning. But the best part ends here. Other than it's good looks, not much's there. The sound is very average like its counterparts, but the others usually cost less. I'm quiet listener, so the volume's always very low, and it doesn't sound too good. Sometimes vocals are barely audible on low volume, so if you are like me, don't buy this. But if you like loud music and care about looks, then I think you'd be fine with this system.
