What can I say? Excellent Transients across the board going from a quiet passage to crescendo in milliseconds! What I love about NAD as designers is despite the multitude of models they produce, They all center around current delivery.

Outcome of this is despite the differing power outputs is they do a great job with difficult speaker loads. Open, detailed, silky smooth, excellent control and command of the bass - are you getting the picture? Imaging excellent with the holographic 3D traits of more expensive amplifiers. In fact it's hard to believe it started life as a mid range amp to be honest, and you would certainly have to spend a lot more today (2017) to equal it in my opinion.

To give you an idea I stream music via the venerable Linn Majik DSI which is an integrated high end box. I choose by choice NOT to use the on board DAC or Chakra amp both excellent by the way, in favour of an external Denon DA300USB DAC and the 314. At the original rrp it was a stonking buy, at current 2nd hand prices it's an audiphile steal !!

If you love your music and demand high fidelity on a budget seek one out, you would be disappointed !

I live in the tropical rain forest of Costa Rica, I have a NAD 314 since 1997, everything from CD players to subwoofers have failed due to humidity over the years except my 314. So its a tough well built amp.
The look is not handsome, but the sound for its price is fantastic!
I listen from classical music to jazz and classic rock. I am not an audiophile but I can see that the best sound for this amp is Jazz or jazz rock, strong male voices or big philarmonics are not the best for this product even so it will perform decently. As I said for this price maybe this is the best you can buy if you want nice sound and reliability.

Simplicity of operation. The actual switches for the input modes are not right behind the buttons but are to the rear right in front of the actual RCA inputs to reduce noise. The result is clean sound and sort of an old word feel to the buttons.

I sadly had some unexpected expenses which caused me to sell a prized integrated ROTEL amp. Once the dust settle, I looked for an inexpensive replacement. I bought this unit on Ebay after seeing the reviews. After paying I re read the reviews and did have some concerns related to bass output. I read that this unit is good for floor standing but not bookshelf speakers. I guess the thought behind hat is that the floorstanding speakers are more sensitive and need less power output. I began to regret the purchase after reading this because I only have bookshelf speakers.
I have been listening to this now using all types of music and this unit, paired with my Dahlquist Q6 bookshelf speakers, (which I reviewed elsewhere on this site but under the newer version) is performing far and above my expectations Bass is not at all lacking. The entire presentation of all types of music, is complete, smooth, detailed, punchy, etc,..... Just as good if not better than the Rotel I sold. I paid $700.00 for the Rotel and only 147.00 for this NAD. I am so happy with this purchase, I wonder why I ever spent the big bucks. Yes, I did lose a lot of build quality but not on sound!
I have other bookshelf speakers to try but they do not have the bass response the Dalhquists do. The Q6 has respectable bass down the 45 hz despite being bookshelf speakers. I ecided to hook these speakers up because of bass and sensativity concerns. At some point, I will try other speakers as well.

This is actually a review on a NAD 3140 from the 80's. I could not write a review on the right page as this product has not been reviewed yet. The NAD 3140 is a great amp delivering a wopping 80 watts a channel. It features dual transisters which doubles it's power from 40 watts a channel to 80. It also features a L.E.D display showing how many watts you are using on each channel. It delivers awsome, clean and natural sound through any speakers. I have mine hooked up to a pair of B&W ZMF 2003 speakers and a 12 inch kenwood sub and it sounds awsome! I would fully recomend this awsome amplifier and give it a 9.5 out 10 for sound quality and value.

Quite powerful, I've limited its frequency area up from 50 Hz to the main speakers. Has separate pre-out and main-in which is just fine for an active subwoofer filter.

Work quality

Great unit but it lacks a bit of a craftman quality: the relay for the speaker outlets had a couple of cold welds. It was found out after 2 years of listening, the sound started to crack, but after the relay was welded again, all the problems were resolved.

I decided to buy this set after reading enthusiastic review in Stereophile (about 304 + 502 + SuperZero) and a recent review in Audio (later on, I noticed that both reviews were written by the same gentleman). Since I was just a neophyte in the Hi-Fi hall, I wouldn't use subjective items to describe my impression on this set. A direct comparison: In my home country, I owned a Mission 752 driven by a $500 tube amplifier (see my review on Mission 752). Last year, I also bought a Panasonic mini system for my parents. I should say that the NAD + NHT combination is obviously inferior to the Mission 752 set. Still, the combination sounds much better than the midi-fi Panasonic VCD mini system.

I bought this combination by mail order. It costs me about $700 +. Although somewhat dispointed with my expectation for magic work. They are a good deal for value. They will remain in my mind as the first set of audio gear I have bought in US.

The building quality (especially the components are just so-so by Hi-end standard). I am afraid there is no circular transformer as the power supply.

3-star overall rate for this entry-level combination.

I bought this amp in 1996 and I still think it sounds great. I still love that clean dynamic sound. I think everybody with a limited budget has to ( at least ) listen to this great amp. highly recommended !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have just auditioned the NAD 314 and the Arcam Alpha 7 integrated amps. After all the hype about the NAD 314, I was disappointed. Even after making sure to turn off the soft-clipping switch, the NAD failed to provide good imaging, soundstaging and texture to the music. Mushy, but warm. I like the features and flexibility for upgrading the amp, but as to sound, expected more detail. By comparison, the Arcam was very detailed, instruments sounded more "real," and the soundstage and imaging was much more defined. Music had more contrast and texture. Downside to the Arcam was that vocals sounded a bit thin, attenuated, a tiny bit like heard through a tube. Particularly female vocals need a bit more rounding out on the bottom. My vote goes to the Arcam as much better and more enjoyable, though neither are "fall in love" components for me.
I auditioned these components with Energy 1.5 and Klipsh speakers, as well as with NHT SuperOnes, with Marantz CC-65SE and Yamaha CD changers as the sources.

The NAD314 is the best amplifier for under US$500. I bought the 314 to replace the little NAD310, and the 314 sounds much better than the 310. It sounds very solid and powerful, and the control in the bass is excellent. The midband is a little warm and very clear, and the high is smooth and sweet. The dynamic power of the 314 is also very good, and the build quality is excellent.

Excellent choice for those in a tight budget and for those who are just starting out in putting a system together. And, of course, elegant NAD design.

No remote... but that's okay.

I bought my 314 used and I am not disappointed with the purchase. One of the reasons why I decided to go ahead with it was partially due to the reviews in here and NADs reputation and aesthetic philosophy.

It's part of the first system I put together. And although I have a very limited budget, I'm probably as much of a music lover as to those who can afford more expensive (i.e. ridiculously overpriced)units. Having said that, I'd like to think I have a good ear. And from what I hear from the sound that comes out of the 314, it is very strong, nicely balanced and fits very well in a one bedroom apartment... which I have. I don't think the 314 is for those who like room shaking power (you know, when you can feel the bass vibrations in your chest)-- because it won't have it. Besides, one shouldn't be listening to music that loud anyway. :-)

The lack of remote was hard for me at first but I'm getting used to it. Just make sure you have good speakers and interconnects and the Int. Amp. will work wonders.
