Strength:

Built-in Pro Logic Surround. This is not the same as Dolby Digital for it isn''t True Surround but it can make most 2 channel input seem like Surround (it worked for some of my DVDs). 3 cd-changer and front inputs a plus as well

Weakness:

This thing does NOT have a Dolby Digital Decoder on it therefore no Optical Input. That was a bummer for me. Also, it has a distortion on a low level. Not a problem until it hits the really annoying short in its auxilary audio input circuit (and my of been just mine too). It is a intermittent short that amplifies the distortion to the point that it is going over the volume of the actual intended audio and there apparently is no frequency filter to prevent it. I had this thing in the shop for 7 weeks and it had not disappeared. I didn''t even bother checking the auxilary input on it (they replaced the left and right amplifier chips).

This stereo seemed to be a great deal. My original impression was that Sony had designed this thing to be used along side the PS2 (note the GameSync and that fact it has a PS2 on the box). Man, there are things that you should just check to be sure. Check the stenghts and weaknesses for more info on whatI mean.

Strength:

Deep pounding bass voor relatively small stereo-system. Home cinema entertainment with Dolby Pro Logic Sound. Optional Dolby Digital Listening with DD 5.1 Pre-Inputs. 3 cd player with optical digital output for digital MD recording.

Weakness:

When playing on very low volume you'll hear little distortion. It can also be a pain in the ass to hide all the surround speaker cables, but that is normal. Furthermore, de cables of the two front speakers are attached to the speakers themselves and they should have been a couple of inches longer for more positioning flexiblity.

Now, it is kinda hard to write a review because this is not a machine I bought. You see, this is not a kind of machine I would buy myself for over approximately $450 us Dollars. No, I just had to be one of the fastest drivers with this superb racing game on my playstation 2 called Gran Turismo 3 to win this baby- and i won it!

So what can I say? The sound is rich and full. The bass is pounding, especially with dvd sound. Explosions and collisions come alive with this system. Music sounds good also. You can adjust equalizer settings to your own taste and there are three modes of 'groove', a kind of mega-bass adjustment. Furthermore there are several cinema-sound-modes for you to enjoy.
The beautiful thing is that you can hook-up your pc or ps/ps2 on it. Games and movies come alive as you are surrounded with cinema sound.

As I mentioned before though, the cables of the front speakers are attached en a little bit short so your are not totally free to place the speakers anywhere you want. It would have been nice if I could detach the cables for placing longer and better ones, but this is not possible-a pity.

There is also a wake up-call option. its nice to wake up with your favorite music. Me myself, I love to wake up with the rocky guitars of Lenny Kravits!

Knowing I have won this system, I have a great deal of pleasure with it. But I guess I wouldn't buy it for the money- For optimal digital hometheatre sound I would save some money and buy hi-quality compnent systems. The funny thing is, I was just planning on doing that - but now I have this system, I'm satisfied already.

The last thing I want to say is that I git a little disappointed when I noticed a tremble at very low volumes. This was bothering me because I like to fall a sleep with background music. Hearing sound at average and Higher volumes though, the trembling is not noticable anymore.

I would give this systems 3,5 stars for overall rating, but considering I got it for free I'll give it 4 ;)

But if it would totally be worth the money...??? ehrr, well I dunno!
