Bottom Line:
so here's the deal, this isn't exactly what you'd call a top of the line system, but i received it when i was rather young as a christmas present..maybe my only present that year? it was amazing. but to be fair, i can no longer call it amazing, but i really can support this system, given one condition...that you never plug the subwoofer in and buy a different one immediately upon purchasing this setup. i suggest looking into purchasing the yamaha sw315, which i recently acquired for about 200 dollars. im still shocked that a low-budget system such as this still has such a solid base (not bass). the mids are solid, and as long as you up the treble a good bit, the highs are nice as well.

another point here is the receiver. it is actually a really high quality receiver, and it continues to impress me as far as features, and its perfect match with the speakers provided. it can get quite loud without distortion. it also has many inputs, more than your average midrange receiver. it has 4 video/audio inputs (one on front)(all of which have svideo and route into your tv), a tape in/out, a cd in, am/fm tuner, and tv audio in. the only real drawback is if you are looking to buy a new hdtv, you will be unable to route the video through the receiver, unless of course you reaaally want to use svideo...

should you buy it? well, if youre looking for a well setup that you are willing to shell out more cash for a decent subwoofer, or you arent all that concerned about bass, then absolutely.

youd be hard-pressed to find a better system at this price point

also, my ratings are based on the class they are in: low-priced

4 stars due to lack of a rea subwoofer

Bottom Line:
Man, this system will blow you away. It has the ability to decode Dolby Digital and DTS formats. It also has a 6 channel input, and a jack for a extra subwoofer. With the 200-watt subwoofer that comes with it, and 100 watts per speaker (center, left, right, left surround, and right surround), you will think you are at a real movie theater.
