Strength:

Fair color, although color fades some with progressive scan on.

Weakness:

Constantly freezing picture which gets worse with time.

I was so dissapointed in this player. The picture and sound quality are both pretty good for this price range but the machine is constantly freezing up to the point that you get so mad that you can't enjoy anything that you watch with it! Circuit City denied knowing of any problem but Zenith does have an upgrade for it.Doesn't fix it though.I shop at good guys now.

Strength:

Nice remote, picture, etc.

Weakness:

Picture freezes repeatedly. Really detracts from viewing experience.

All worked fine on this for about a year, and then it began freezing up about 10 times per movie. I've searched the Web and found this forum, where I see other reports of the same problem. Avoid this model, or buy an extended warranty.

Strength:

Price (got a floor model and discount for a small scratch). Sound and Picture quality are excellent. Plays VCD's on both CD-R and RW (with a very easy remote control code hack) Optical out and Progressive Scan in such a cheap unit is a plus.

Weakness:

Remote is nothing spectacular. Doesn't handle dirty DVD's well.

This is a very solid player. I used to have a Panasonic DVD player, but gave it to my Mom when I bought this unit. I have been pleased with both the sound and picture quality so far. I use the optical out to my Yamaha receiver and the component out with progressive scan setting to my 57" Hitachi widescreen. The player does have trouble with only 1 disc I own, and I think it's due to scratches. Also, I've had problems playing dirty CD's, like the kind you'd get if you rent. However, if you take care of your DVDs, this player is just fine. Also, it does pause at some point for about 1 to 2 seconds while playing dual layer discs, but this seems to be normal, as it did the same thing in my old Panasonic player.

Strength:

Component output works great! Even got the progressive scan. Will try it out after I get my HDTV.

Weakness:

Menu didn't show for some movies. Not sure whether it's the movie or the player. Can't display remain time.

The player looks clean and sharp. It works great so far. Played almost 10 rental movies right after I got it, worked through all of them. No problem. But the tray got stuck twice, little glitch. No biggie. Just use the button or the remove, do not try manually push the tray. From the reviews I've read, maybe I am just more lucky. Still it's a very nice looking piece.

Strength:

Progressive scan works perfectly on 61" RCA HDTV.

Weakness:

NONE so far.

First DVD , no worries. Just like any typical VCR you ever bought - unwrap it, plug it in, it works. Lasts a long time.

Strength:

Reasonably smooth video (I''m not an expert, but there are some slight jumps). Good sound, and correct decoding. Can be set to any region code (0-6) by using a simple hack. Can obviously play PAL DVD''s correctly (I tried a region 2 PAL disc, with no additional decoder, and it works correctly on my TV, a Sony KV-27S42).

Weakness:

Price could be a bit better. Faster command execution.

Aimed at a more objective review, here are my 2 cents worth. I''ve had this player for a few months now, and I can''t vouch for the progressive scan (not having the right equipment to try it out). However, the audio is acceptable, the digital audio coaxial and optical outs working fine on my player, giving nice 5.1 Dolby sound, correctly decoded (I tested it with movies where I know what they should sound like). It is, as someone said, a bit slow responding to commands, and I have encountered one CD that should have a menu, but I can''t access it. And true, the MP3 file names are cut off, some shorter, and some longer (don''t know what''s happening there), so that''s frustrating, especially since most of my MP3''s have at least 15 characters in them. It''s a decent machine, though not an audiophile piece of equipment.

Strength:

Small and lightweight, clean design.

Weakness:

Simply would not play some movies properly. Slow response to commands

I experience a couple of major issues with this machine. Playing one particular movie the menu would not allow me to turn off the "narration" feature. Trying to view a different movie the menu would not display and the movie continued in a loop. I took it back (kudos to Circuit City, they did not hesitate to swap it) and the 2nd machine did the exact same thing! It would play some movie just fine so I''m not sure why this happened. I will swap for a different brand next week.

Strength:

hdcd.. progressive scan

Weakness:

obviously alot of bad apples in the batch so I suggest taking some dvds to wherever you purchace and test everything out before you buy...... or you might possibly be taking 3 back in the same day like I did....

Had to take 3 back because somthing was wrong with the remote, or remote sensor rather with my first three... other than that this one hasnt done me wrong yet...... a few skips on over rented dvd''s..... but thats to be expected.
