Product Description

The image-conscious will appreciate the DVD-C900GL by Yamaha; its innards are identical to the DVD-C900 but it boasts a tres chic gold-amber finish and walnut end panels. The extra cachet costs an additional $200, so only the well-heeled should apply. The most conspicuous feature on this unit is the five-disc changer behind the extra-wide drawer on the ritzy front panel. For sheer convenience, the tray mechanism lets you open the drawer and rotate the carousel without interrupting disc play, so that you can add or remove any four of the discs while the fifth is playing. If the disc capacity seems like overkill -- how often do you have time to watch five movies back-to-back? -- bear in mind that DVD players can also be used for audio CDs. Of course, the unit's main function is to play movies, not music, and it's well equipped in this area with a 10-bit video DAC and an array of output jacks that include the component video outputs for the highest quality connection to like equipped TVs.On the audio, this model has pass-through for Dolby Digital (DD) and DTS, but no built-in decoders or 6-channel analog outputs. Translation: If you want to hear full 5.1 surround sound, the player must be paired with either a standalone outboard decoder or an A/Vreceiver equipped with the necessary circuitry.
