Strength:

resume function for 5 movies, looks ok.

Weakness:

remote sucks, slow, freezes,im gonna sell it and but something either real good or get a good low cost toshiba, pioneer or panasonic.Never buy a yamaha dvd player they are just real crap now.Heres a pointer if you want a good dvd buy made in japan not china.

Bought this dvd player to replace the 700 which was fine until the damn thing stopped reading discs and would not play cdr's or mutli regions anyway.I checked dvd players until i was confused.I finally went for this one after almost buying the toshiba sd900e which i should have bought in the end.Plus i already had a rxv 800 and wanted to keep it all the same.Well i had 6 months trouble free operation of this player but now it freezes up during movies and pauses and goes spastic which i have to turn it off and on again to make it work. The disc tray is a bit weird because if the disc is not in right it will get jammed i done it once when i bumped the tray and it went in and came back out with no disc on its return.I thought it was an excellent cd player as well but i just bought a $40 marantz cd player from ebay and it kills it.I done a a.b comparisson with the same song as i have 2 copies and it was just muddled.I was using a $270 qed digital cable against a $400 qed silver spiral pair of ana.It is just a basic player my panasonic for now $300 is much better but has no coax. The yamaha has plenty of outlets but the zoom is crap and it takes forever to start and open.Overall not a good buy.

Strength:

Great quality, both audio and video media.

Weakness:

Slow to 'boot up', no remote eject, poor remote lay-out. Any more lock-ups and I'd add this too as a weakness.

This was a birthday present, but I had given a few hints (to match my other Yammie gear). I have found it to play very well, with excellent quality video, and reproduction of music and MP3 CDs. It is a bit slow to power up when power is first switched on. It has also had a couple of lock-ups, once in the midle of a DVD (frozen picture), and the other after a day or so on on 'standby' (accepted a DVD, but would not play). Both required full power removal to get it back into life. Also does not have an eject button on the rather basic and poorly laid out remote control. Price (AU$490) was a little high when purchased 4 months ago, but now is very high with the recent huge price drops for DVD players in Australia. But it is a Yamaha...

None, other than using a PS2 for DVDs, just to get a taste for them.
