Bottom Line:
This is for the Toshiba SD-1800, purchased at Best Buy. So far so good. No problems playing any DVD's, audio CD/CD-R/CD-RW or MP3s. The sound and picture seem good, although my system is low end. Player runs cool, the unit is also shallow depth so it fits easily on the flat top of my tv. The manual says CD-RW's not "recommendable", but I had no problems using those with mine (generic CD-RW discs too). For MP3's, it needs to be single session. Manual says don't use long filenames, but it just displays them like DOS (8.3 with ~) and plays fine. Random is easy to use for music/mp3's. Doesn't support nested folders for mp3, although I haven't tested that to verify it. Remote is good - not lighted or universal, but easy to learn with good sized buttons and good power and angle of use. Dialog enhancer almost doubles the volume - but does help. Unit display is small - does not show track/chapter and time simultaneously, although remote and menus allow you to switch. Display is dimmable. Menus are small and initially confusing, but have good options. Zoom is useful and simple. Will resume playback as long as disc remains (even after powered off). Rather ugly screen saver/background, but can be changed to plain grey screen too. Overall a nice player for the money.
