Review 1 of 3

Price Paid:  $90.00 from Best Buy

Summary:
Very good feature set, picture, and sound - especially considering it's just a $90. player. Can't say about reliability yet, I've owned it for less than 2 weeks. But for $20. more than the SD-3750, you get the circuit that's supposed to improve the picture on older DVD's, which does seem to work OK. So, if you've got a lot of older or inferior discs, get the SD-4900. If not, save a few bucks and get the SD-3750. For the price, you can't go wrong with either.

Strengths:
~ Good menu system/adjustability. ~ Nice display, can be dimmed or turned off.

Weaknesses:
~ Can sometimes hear the disc spinning while playing.

Review 2 of 3

Price Paid:  $79.00 from BB

Summary:
I've read mixed reviews about Toshiba DVD players. So I bought the Toshiba SD-4900 knowing that I will just try it and then return it. Besides, I think it looks ugly. To my surprise, it is an EXCELLENT DVD player. I actually bought another one so now I have two! PICTURE QUALITY IS AMAZING and sound is excellent (quite warm). It is very user friendly - setup is a breeze and very easy to use. The remote is ok; some of its buttons glow in the dark which I like. Another feature I like is that, unlike other players, it has more controls on the player (i.e. menu, arrow keys, etc.) in case you don't have the remote handy. It is also able play all of my DVDs that refuses to play on my other DVD players. I usually don't write reviews, but I am so impressed with this inexpensive little player. As far as progressive scan DVD players, I've owned the Sony 715?? and the Panasonic DV67??. Picture on both are good, but I think the Toshiba SD-4900 blows them away. Sound on the Toshiba is also much better. Oh, have I mentioned that the Toshiba comes with DVD Audio for $79?

Strengths:
Picture quality, Picture quality, Picture quality, Sound quality, Controls on player, DVD Audio, Price!

Weaknesses:
Appearance, silver color, very short rubber feet - not good if you put it on top of a component that gets hot (e.g. receiver)

Similar Products Used:
Pioneer DV333, Zenith DVD?, Yamaha DVD?, Sony 715?, Panasonic DV67
